No 6600GT support off the bat?

Featured Replies

I was looking at the video cards supported by BF2 on a website and I noticed how there is no support for the 6600 line. I've got a 6600GT, does that mean I won't be able to play BF2 until they release a patch that supports it?
i believe it works no problem. assuming you have xp, set a restore point before you install the drivers that came with bf2 if they are needed.
I have been playing the demo all day on a 6600 with no problem. It did prompt me to install the drivers that came with it, but no problems.
I'm not gonna install the drivers that came with it. I'm not a fan of beta drivers. Unless they are necessary?

i think most people dled the drivers that came with it and it helped

Why would they NOT support it?

"Hey Jim lets support the 5700, 5900, and 6800 series, but skip the 6600. Just to make people mad."

Must have been a typo.

Ya, they did that with the X850 series in the first set of requirements. Not sure if they changed that since the demo. Seriously, how could the top of the line card from ATI not be supported? THats just dumb. My guess is the 6600 is the same way, just got left out.

I installed the latest official drivers from Nvidia, and that did not fix nasty block shadows around the models. After I installed the ones that came with the demo, everything worked fine.

What leads you to believe they are beta?? I'm thinking they'll be the next release version from Nvidia, and would even wager that they'll be released to coincide with the BF2 release. I used them and all is well and fine. As long as your card can do the 1.4 pixel shader thing, and has at least 128 mb memory (which all the 6600's I've seen do), then you'll be fine. BUt would highly recommend the drivers, otherwise, in the demo anyway (and I'm betting the same in the release) you'll get harassed by the game to load them or newer.
