Dog gone it, lost my CD key already!

Featured Replies

So... I went to reinstall the game per the instruction concerning the 1.01 patch issues....

Unfortunatly, the game didn't seem to give me an option to just reinstall over the folder, so I uninstalled it. Of course, it asked me for the key.

I went looking for the game manual that had the key on it.... gone, missing, misplaced. I went thru my game manual drawer... gone! I found every damn BF manual except the one for BF2! DOH!

Have the case, just no manual... dang it. Looked up how I can get another... I need to have the game 90 days first, spend 10 bucks, and send them the original CD as proof I bought the game.

Guess I'm out of action for awhile folks. Sorry :/

That was dumb of EA and anyone to put a key on the manual. Really, who keeps the manual forever. It gets lost, wet or destroyed but no the cd. Why not on the cd or the case?
invest in a sharpie pen... then when you get a game... write the key right on the install disk. then if you lose your manual or case, its no biggie.

the CDkey might still be in your registry.

go to run

regedit

look for

hkey loacal machine

software

EA Games

ERGC

The value there will be the key without the dashes.

I checked the registry, the game has been removed as it was uninstalled. So that idea is out.

Agreed, Operation Flashpoint / 1nsane did this too, retarded idea.

That sucks dude, I hate when I loose cdkeys so I know how you feel, and I was about to tell you about the regresty, but someone beat me too it!

Was your registry backed up by windows or other software ? Maybe restoring reg backup gets you to see key along with possible error popups from missing software links in reg. Or an undeleter like Norton Utilities ?

System Restore, of course! *slaps self* Restoring to the day before I uninstalled worked like a charm, I was able to retrieve the key. The game is installing as we speak. Thanks for the help guys!
Yeah, MS system restore is actually a very very useful feature. Everyone gives MS so much crap over their big stuff that they always miss the cool little programs they make as well. System restore has saved my life as well, a couple times in fact
