Posted August 2, 200520 yr http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/08/02/toronto.crash/index.html this is somewhat scary... my first thoughts were terrorist attack here in canada. then they said it was hit by lightening. this is somewhat nervracking considering my grandparents are flying back to begium from there in a day... at least they are saying that everyone made it out alive at this point
August 2, 200520 yr What I'm reading says that it overran the runway and burst into flames after it stopped. No official word on survivors yet.. TFD
August 2, 200520 yr No, it's next to the runway and 2 coachloads of people have been brought to the hospital
August 2, 200520 yr im hearing no deaths, around 30 injuries. i'm not too far from where that happened, either. there was also a rainstorn with lightning. I think the fire happened after the crash, tho I'm not sure.
August 2, 200520 yr Yes, now saying all 309 passengers and crew survived. Some seriously injured though, not believed to be life threatening. And this is what the news story says: "An Air France passenger jet attempting to land at Toronto's Pearson International Airport overran a runway by 200 meters Tuesday, bursting into flames and sending smoke billowing into the sky." Nothing about it running off the side?? TFD
August 2, 200520 yr well from the pictures i've seen of the crash, it looks like it over ran it and to the left of the runway a bit.
August 3, 200520 yr It seems like it was landing and when it touched down, it just hydroplained right off the runway. Whoaa!
August 3, 200520 yr the plane WAS hit by lightning when it was on the tarmac In response, Canada said they'd find Mother Nature and bring her to justice for this cowardly attack
August 3, 200520 yr Author accually, it was hit in the air (while landing, which is also why the lights went out before they landed). and thats probably why it overshot the runway, since landing is all handled by the computers now. im guessing they got hit, the computers went out, and the pilot was like 'crap!' and tried to land it.
August 3, 200520 yr Wow, no one seriously hurt, thats good news. the plane WAS hit by lightning when it was on the tarmac In response, Canada said they'd find Mother Nature and bring her to justice for this cowardly attack Lol, What would Brian Boytano do?
August 3, 200520 yr Author argh, the french plane made a mess of our nice airport! there are going to be some angry people this morning. the coldplay concert was yesterday evening and many people we're GOING to be flying in to see it. refund anyone? i think not.
August 5, 200520 yr What was truly sad was seeing all the rubberneckers on the highway. Yeesh, as if it wasn't bad enough that it was rush hour, but having yahoos stop at the side of the road to stare? That is pretty embarrasing behavior by my fellow Canadians.
August 6, 200520 yr There is less crach in plane than in trains and than in cars on the road per years... Egidio.
August 6, 200520 yr yeh, but when a plane crashes it hits the news right away cuz they carry like 300 people
August 6, 200520 yr Belgium statistics: Crash plane = 1 by year when happen = 300 to 600 death (sometime on 10 years). Crash trains = 1 to 2 by year = 10 to 300 death. Crash cars (with other cars, bikes or cycles) = 1 to 25000 = 1 to 55000 death by year. Trains & planes are the most secure things for to travel... Egidio.

August 6, 200520 yr holy crap BTD! i dont think i want to drive anywhere anymore :[ EDIT: erm, in Belgium
August 7, 200520 yr holy crap BTD! i dont think i want to drive anywhere anymore :[ EDIT: erm, in Belgium Yes, I understand, but the most cat crash are when the youngs gone from a "dancing club" or "night club" (night's box): most than 4000 persons leave the dancings in same time on the road or highway and they make "speed" under drunk and kill 3 to 5 persons in each car... We are only 12,000,000 people in Belgium, in France, it's the same things and most many people: they are 42,000,000... But only 100,000 killed on the road. I seen the plane carshed at tv, if the track was flat, the plane could continued is landing without crash if this downward (ravine or gully) at the end of the track was flat like the high security in all countries in Europa... Egidio.
August 9, 200520 yr What was truly sad was seeing all the rubberneckers on the highway. Yeesh, as if it wasn't bad enough that it was rush hour, but having yahoos stop at the side of the road to stare? That is pretty embarrasing behavior by my fellow Canadians. Where I come from we call them "Lookielous", because that's the jackass on the side with his friend Lou saying "Golly gee, Lookie Lou at that <bleep!>"
August 11, 200520 yr Apparently, I happened to be there right when the plane crashed.. what a co-incidence . I was on my way home from a St. John Ambulance duty so I had all my first aid equipment with me. Highway 401 was closed off so that passengers on board were allowed to come on to the highway to escape the deadly explosions and so I hopped out of my car and assisted some people to go on to the highway. I also treated passengers on board for fire fumes inhalation and minor cuts and briuses from the impact. But some passengers had injuries beyond my extent and were rushed to the nearest hospital by our mighty Toronto EMS full-time paramedics. It was an excellent experience for me but everyone was thankful that no one was killed and that no one had inrepairable injuries. Cheers guys. Toronto EMS Paramedic }+{
