How do i make smaller Pictures ?

Featured Replies

I want to upload some pictures to the gallery, but the resolution of the pictures (from a 5 Megapixel Camera) is to high for the gallery.

Does anyone know, which software i can use to shrink the pictures ?

Thanks in advance.

In Adobe Photoshop: open an image, go to 'image' tab (top left, next to 'edition' tab, next to next to 'file' tab), go to 'size image', do your job.
Or first make sure that the document is editable and press ctrl+t and fill in the percentages in the top bar

Boys, boys! If he had Photoshop, don't you think he'd KNOW how to resize an image? Photoshop usually equals Knows-What-He's-Doing. C'mon now!

Windows has a "PowerToy" called ImageResizer. You right click on image (or images) in windows explorere, chose "Resize", chose the new size, and you're done. Get it at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

IrfanView is a great all-around image viewer with basic editting tools. Get it at http://www.irfanview.com/

Don't forget, however, that Windows' Paint program could be all you need. Load the image, go to Shrink/Skew, and take it down!

Also, Arn', make sure you save it as something other than BMP. That will help a lot toward making it 'small' enough to fit in the gallery. Try PNG or JPG. IrfanView works best for this effort, IMHO.

(And for all you Photoshop Fanboys: Go get the Gimp. It's just as good, has every feature Photoshop does plus more, and it's absolutely completely free (which means you don't have to pirate or bay 600 dollars for it!) )

Klif, I agree that its good for basic functions, but photoshop has many more features that are needed as apposed to gimp for artists.

gimp basic? are you HIGH?

yeah and i never payed a cent for photoshop. graphics design FTW.

also i prefer Photoshop, less buggy, and more features when gimp has, no matter what you say, you can do alot more in PS.

how much of photoshop have you actualy used?.

how much of gimp have you used?

i never said photoshop was basic, i never said it lacked features. what i said (at least, in my head!) is that Gimp has 95% of the features of and 99% of the compatability with photoshop.

Most of the time those higher end cameras like your and mine take at very large format say 2272x1704 so you would first want to go to a photo editing tool like photoshop or any that let you resize. Now change the size to say 800x600 or something along those lines which will give you a big reduction in size with out losing a lot of resolution. IF your picture is to big (MB wise) then just save as a jpg with a higher compression until you get it to a size/quality ratio you can live with. Just keep in mind you can make the file size very small with compression but then it starts getting very blurry from being compressed.

BTW use the GIMP program Klif mentioned it is free and pretty good...if you do not have photoshop cs :D
