I know many of you who are pretty good pilots you use joysticks. I was wondering if any of you guys could recommend a joystick that isn't too expensive but still gets the job done. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i highly recommend Saitek. their joysticks rule. just make sure you get one with a twist handle. comes in handy for helicopters.

this is mine

and from what i have found it is the best bang for the buck. i know 3 others that use the same one and they all love it.

good luck

keep in mind that price is in canadian dollars. click the us tab on the top left for US price.

I have the old Sidewinder forcefeedback V1.0 (connected to the sound card) from microsoft and auto detected/configured by winp: most easy for to fly, I make 4 hours training in heli when the bf2 server was emty yesterday...

And my son purchased the 3D Logitech forcefeedback in USB...

Egidio.

i use keyboard. and notice...i didnt say mouse. i dont use mouse. i use keyboard with the arrow keys, and i still do alright in a jet. helis...meh...the transport ones are easy but i cant fly the combat helis...

yeah for choppers, mouse and keyboard are the best, but for jets since you have to drag the mouse back you get a pause when trying to do a sharp turn.
you guys really use keyboard, and mice? i find flying the attack heli's hards as heck to fly . i dunno it may just be me but i love the feeling of using the joystick. just adds that little extra effect. lol

yes and a little extra $$$
i use the mouse, and i'm probably one of the best pilots here (ask flipster or deli) i just have my sensetivity at like 7.2 for flying
I use a Saitek X52 but, it's kinda expensive.. I've used a logitech force feedback digital something or other.. but the twist handle got abused alot and after a while it wouldnt calibrate for beans.. before that i had a Saitek Cyborg graphite.. had no twist handle lasted quite a while untill i wore the hat switch out (due to not having a twist handle) alot of people use the logitech extreme 3d and seem to like them. but i love my Saitek x52, whatever you decide if it doesn't have a twist handle (for rudder control) your missing out IMO.

Yeah, thats only because I suck with the jets. mofo :p
Logitech 3D pro, recommended by Doc and I love it.

Jupp have one and love it :p

On a side note, how you setup choppers on your joystick? I have left/right on turning, while the handle controlls the sideways rolling

I have a Saitek Evo and like it a lot. It may look completely weird and uncomfortable, but its very comfortable and easy to use for long periods of time.

However on the discussion of mouse/keyboard vs joystick. I use mouse and keyboard for helis (and im pretty good with them) and use the joystick for planes. For some reason I just cant fly a plane with the mouse and keyboard.

try using the arrows instead of the mouse....it helps me a hell of alot more.

That involves me crashing, a lot. Bunch of the guys I play with use all keyboard but Im just horrible with it.

I use the keyboard and MX510 mouse for the choppers but I can't the jets. It might as well be a brick when I try the jets :p

MX510 mouse is sweet for anything (can't afford the MX1000 laser mouse :p )

oh ya and one of the cheapest thing a allsop metal mouse pad.............I was amazed at the tracking differance.....just amazing

Well alot of you liked the Cyborg EVO so I baught it today.........welll still fidelling with........the manual says there is hundreds of profiles on the disk and web site I found about 15 and none for BF2 :p

Can anyone help me

Profiles should kill themselves, in my opinion. I see no reason for them or the software for that matter. Just map the keys in BF2. That's just my two cents, I know theres a lot of people that like profiles but I just find no reason to use them. All you need on a joystick is fire, secondary fire, throttle, flares, boost, and maybe switch camera. The rest you can hit on the keyboard if theyre that important.
I have an old joystick from like '93 or somethin....but I never use it. Never thought of it really, I just always use mouse and keyboard to fly....and for BF2 demo I just turned up the sensitivity for planes.
