I've never heard of that happening. Have you searched the Steam support for help? And how long has this been happening?
January 9, 200619 yr I've had that but rarely and long ago so dunno what to say. What happens if someone else tries to login with same steam acct ? Could firewall or internet attack or sudden ping spike cause this ? Maybe rename the steam blob file which it will replace when you start it ?

Never had those problems before also when norton was actived during play, steam troubles began only when nvidia updated since the bf2 video drivers to the 77.77 update and with last driver 81.98 = steam stable now... Egidio. Okay, so the prob started with 77.77 drivers ? And gone with 81.98 nvid drivers ? I didn't think vid drivers would crash steam. That's why i wondered if someone else may be borrowing your steam login causing you to be rejected. or firewall partially blocking their confirmation of your legitamcy. Or messed up blob file which just needs renaming to replace. Since updating mine to 77.77, I can't play CS in opengl. Also can only use 800 res in D3D for CS. FA works in d3d 640 res which i prefer for bigger targets ;-)

My FA sprays don't show to me in FA in d3d but do to others there. HL1 and FA definitely prefer opengl drivers for various effects. But, like you, i lost ability to use opengl after getting 77.77 nvidia drivers. Maybe I should get the newer driver you mentioned ?
January 24, 200619 yr Nice to play with you on your team in DJD FA server for hr. Hearing your "oyey oyey oyey" brought back many funny memories. Was great ol fun playing there. For your info relating to this thread, I had possibly the same fa and steam closures you mentioned. Twice in that hr. I haven't had that for few months. Played okay in YIS and DJD last few months. Just letting you know BTD since it seems POSSIBLY related to that server but I didn't test other servers at time to be sure so I dunno.
January 25, 200619 yr Author Less steam shut down with the new nvidia driver 81.98... Try it and test it... Fun to play on Yis & DJD servers! When I went the first time on the Yis server, Ripper said something bad on me because I am in the TAC + euro and a member of Yis clan, perhaps an admin, tell him to stop and respect the TAC else he (Ripper) will got his perma ban... I mean YIS clan have a great respect to The Armory Clan for to have defended me! Some guys ask me how I can play without tell "bad" words like swear or cussing in game? I typed: "My teachers never learned me your bad side of your language, sorry!" and they ROFL... Egidio.

January 26, 200619 yr "Hey thanks" The 81.98 drivers, 77.77 uninstalled per nvidia site instructions, 81.98 added after reboot, i can now again see my custom sprays in FA . Thanks BTD. I was reluctant because late summer driver updates had probs with some games. Found i had to go back to 77.77 to solve. I assumed they weren't bothering with older game compatibilities with 4-5 yr old hardware like mine. Seems this latest driver has those bugs worked out. BF2 map packs tested and working smooth as silk atleast in multi-create local. Cheers.

February 5, 200619 yr Happened 1 time yesterday due to an update of steam perhaps... Else ok with the last nvidia drivers 81.98... Egidio. New "update" to my previous posts with you on this : My son who once a week I let play CS1 here, showed me that any CS1 server was laggy with these 81.98 Nvidia drivers in my pc2 sys. I experimented with various windows (max video performance set) and video software settings (max performance set) for a week to no avail. So I finally gave up and went straight to the nvidia 77.77 exe installer. It detected the newer driver and asked if i wanted to go back. I said yes. It did stuff, then asked to reboot, during reboot winxp gave popup saying new default video *** detected, do you want to install. behind that window was an nvidia window popup that said 77.77 install interupted, stop other install then press our continue button to finish. i canceled winxp offer, finished nvidia 77.77 reinstall. now son's cs1 servers have no more lag. and surprising to me, my sprays still work in FA. They did not before with 77.77 but maybe i uninstalled/reinstalled wrong. all is good to go. we found cs1 and now FA prefer opengl instead opf d3d, in 800 res. Cheers, thanks for info that helped me decide what best for our older system. Older drivers. PS: Moral of this story is I have learned from much trial and error that older video drivers are often best for either older pcs and video cards or/and older games. "Don't play with fire" j/k, leave bios default (although i did disable bios "fast agp write", i not sure yet if that makes big diff), video card and winxp best performance, touch nothing else. i thought i had and maybe did have a few more fps in bf2 in usual laggy big wavy water maps like "clean sweep". but it works now non the less if not a lot of players. good luck older pc users, hope this helps you, regards, Hogan. ;-)
