Pixel WIP.

Featured Replies

Still a work in progress.

Done with a 1px pencil tool, hence pixel art. I think there is... 8-10 colors in here, roughly.

Also, might not look like much (from the size), but zoom in. Had to do that all by hand, pixel by pixel. :)

(it's my second atempt at doing a real pixel, first sig... before I did an avatar)

Yeah, took a while doing it pixel by pixel >_<.

Getting circles a perfect shape is hard too lol.

Before I knew it was pixel by pixel I was like, o_O, that looks like somthing I would do, nadril must be losing his touch! :D !

Heh, it's supposed to have a (somewhat) cartoony look on it. Of course, i'm still new to it, so learning more pixel techniques and sprite creation techniques.

here's it zoomed in btw: (well version i'm working on)

(don't mind the brown thing. Still a ship in progress)

that HAS to be a pain in the ass to make....

Not really. I've done tons of pixel crap and it isn't as tedious as us pixel artists make it sound. We just do that for the attention :D

I don't know, that dithering was a pain in the ass lol. (the checkerboard shading. Basicly it's used to save colors) :D .

are you using photoshop to do it? i can see the problems with using ps.. my suggestion would be to use fireworks 8. you can reduce your vector drawings to 1 point hard rendering everything pixelated when you draw it. then you can use the gradient to fill and when you export just reduce your color pallet. this is extremly easy in fireworks since it is made especially for reduced file sizes for web.... unlike photoshop which is more for precise photoediting. you can download a 30day trial here: http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/

i have adobe cs2 and macromedia studio 8 and for pixel art i would definatly go with fireworks because its so easy to export in it! hope this helps ya get some pixel art done quick >.<

Fireworks takes out the meaning and point of a pixel piece though. Fireworks is mainly a vector program, roughly the exact opposite of a pixel piece.

If I realy wanted to I could use paint for this, but I use photoshops layers. Other than that, just the 1 px pencil tool. I'm not worried about taking time, pixel art is a time consuming type of art, but i'd much rather try and excel in it the right way and not take shortcuts.

I mean, gradient? That's incredibly lazy, plus to be honest, gradient shading = ew. I'd rather have total control over what i'm doing, and do pixel art as it should. Also, gradients take up a crap load of colors...

har har, are those stars or CONCORD SHIPS!!!!

We'll never know :D .
I use a program called Graphics Gale. It's like MS Paint and PS had a baby. You got your layers, you got your grids, you got your awsome fill bucket, but it's all pixels. :o

Yeah, i'd probaly use that, but i'm so used to photoshop. Lol, I even used it to do a portfolio piece I needed to do, hated trying to work with pictures in word :o :p .

Jairyn.. when you going to get ungrounded :( .

and lol hogan. I'm going to be doing this for a job though (not necisarily pixels, more 3D) :o .

fireworks is byfar definatly not a vector graphics program. And as soon as you export it with a reduced color pallet, it will be like 4 colors. so take that.

Well i'd rather just use those 4 colors from the start and do it pixel by pixel. :o .

I think I was getting Flash and fireworks mixed up a bit, considering they are nearly the same (flash for animation though.)

They have fireworks on the computers in web page, so i've seen it before, just never... liked it. I'd probaly go faster in photoshop anyways :o .

Neither flash / fireworks are pure vector, but they have some elements in it.

flash is definatly vector based, but fireworks has very minimal vector tools.

th layers and pallete system is what seperates adobe from macromedia the most, and thats why i dont like switching back and forth between the two. if your used to one program, then i can see why you wouldnt like the other one.

i only really use adobe for editing my RAW photos since that is the only thing macromedia doesnt support >:/ cmon studio 9! wait... adobe bought macromedia... ahhhh.... macromedia is so screwed.

one thing that Adobe does suck at (this is a proven fact) is web page design. Adobe go live cs2 creates so much unwanted code it isnt funny, and it also parcially supports CSS (cascading style sheets). it was ranked 3 below dreamweaver >.<

i sure hope adobe doesnt butcher dreaweaver.

Yeah, adobe doesn't do well as far as web design goes (unless your just slicing layouts via imageready)

Otherwise, it's a nightmare. :o
