So I come home for break with my pimped out new system and monitor the size of a TV all ready to play some BF2 with yall, and what happens? The 1.2 patch has SNAFUBARED BF 2 just like the OTHER 2 DAMN PATCHES!!!!! What the HELL? I thought patches were supposed to FIX the game? Instead I frequently "lose my connection", crash out, freeze up, and I still sometimes take 5 minutes just to load a map. I am getting ****ing sick of this (look, its even making me swear! I rarely do that), I shelled out the bucks to play a perpetual beta. Dammit, DICE, I hate you guys so much. You have awesome game mechanics, but your coders suck giant donkey.... nevermind. Sigh, sorry guys, had to vent, I know there is nothing to be done about it.

I think i heard there were probs related to ati vid cards with recent bf2 update.

 

Though i had none with older ati Radeon 9600 XT 128 mb vid card after bf2 update. maybe only newer ati drivers and cards are effected as i've heard some with them have had probs.

 

if probs, i have some suggestions to try:

 

1-change something in bf2 video settings and apply to get popup saying changing video something. close bf2 totally then restart to get it to reset what card and drivers you have.

 

2-clear possible confilcts in win registry. uninstall all ati drivers and software from add/remove list to remove all ati stuff. reboot. install latest drivers from cd or harddrive. update them. reboot. do step 1 above.

 

3-rerun bf2 update if still probs. change bf2 video settings to reset it's video config file. all i changed was 800-600-60 to 800-600-75. then saved back to 60 refresh for what i think is more performance.

 

4-failing all the above. sad, uninstall bf2... reinstall and update bf2 ...

 

5-failing above = sadder = uninstall all bf2 and maybe all ea to use registry cleaner to wipe all ea and bf2 keys from registry.

Sigh, I will do this when I wipe my HDD (scheduled maintaince) in a couple days, hopefully it works.

I flat out refuse to format my hard drive to play a game. That's ridiculous.

When ya coming over Steve? I have some BF2 computers that still work. Mine does but only BF2. Not BF2 and SF.

 

Both my sons work. one is ATI the other is Nvidia. All in all. Out of 10 computers. 8 can and 2 cannot after the patch. Not good odds if you ask me.

One thing I found. If you have a monitor and hook up a lesser refreshrate monitor tot he same PC. It will not start up BF2. Crashes to desktop. Like if you take your PC over to your friends and it wont work but it works at your house. I feel sorry for people that get new monitors and the game does not work. Then have the patch mess it up too.

Hmmm. Interesting news to me. Changing monitor can have this effect on

Or maybe even changing device manager listing of monitor from "default" to proper actual monitor, if one realized they had not done that ?

 

Perhaps resetting device manager monitor and drivers would appease bf2 ?

Anyways, yeah I guess I am just going to have learn to live with the bugs : ( I enjoy the gameplay too much to give it up entirely. I just spent 30 on Spec Ops (and Im hoping it wasnt a waste, so far, middle of the road experience). Its just so frustrating. Im hoping the move to a new SATA drive I have will fix some of the long load issues. Also, Im going to get a better mobo and OC at some point.

Artic Cooling has the same cooling device for all sorts of video cards.

 

Another possibility is your system running too hot? BF2 really pushes your system to threshold area's if not well cooled.

 

Another solution is to play pac-man A game your cumputer can handle... J/K

There's the problem K2 you have have 1 gig of ram. buying another 1 gig is cheap these days, Another Gig of ram will improve loading times on all your programs.

 

You already invested $80 in BF2, investing in another 1 gig of ram isn't just for the game, but improves overall systems speed and stabability. you of all people should know this.

 

So stop thinking like a Sicilian (Hard headed) [i'm Sicilian...hehe] and get the RAM!

Impact tell me the temperature results between the stock and the Artic cooler.

 

I had the artic cooler on my X800XL and liked it. I went with Zalman because of price/availability and it matchs my CPU fan......

 

Mine went from 46/76 stock to 45/60 with the zalman @ 12v.

I haven't recieved it yet, but from the reviews on the same vid card I have they were impressive.

Buying another 1 gig is cheap these days.

Tell that to my wife who is taking care of our 2 month old son and who also just let me buy a new truck. After the 5.1 headphones, I promised her no more purchases. On top of that, I refuse to REQUIRE more RAM in my home computer that I use for playing games than I do in my work computer that I use to do high-end graphic design and video editing for broadcast.

 

It's ridiculous. Period.

I have 2 gigs of RAM and a 7800GTX, my processor is a 3000+ Venice Core AMD Athlon 64. Im thinking I am either:

a) Not getting enough power from the PSU

Things are overheating

c) Mobo sucks

d) EA is the devil

d) EA is the devil

While Im whining and moaning: You know what really grinds my gears?

 

I'm not sure what they were smoking when they said they dolphin diving, insta prone-shoot was no longer possible. These past few days, quite literally 50% of my deaths can be attributed to someone instaproning and gunning me down. There was no discernable delay between when they went prone and when they started firing, you have no idea how frustrating it is to get the drop on someone only for them to teleport to the prone position with guns blazing.

 

Also, has anyone noticed that Spec Ops seems to be really buggy? I can't play spec ops at 1600 x 1200 (the FPS nose dives), but I can play BF2 reg just fine at that res. Further, there seem to be a number of weird little glitches that always manifest themselves at the worst moment. Maybe its just my current irritation with the game that magnifies these issues that may have always been there, but its annoying none the less.

 

Sorry guys for all the griping, I know, I know, you just gotta deal... Believe you me, Im adapting and overcoming, but I still need to vent frustrations from time to time.

I don't know what they did with the control scem of it all, but it has gone all ta hell. When I want to go from prone to running and sprinting right away. It usually takes me back down to prone, or even better it will start doing this stuttered step or something where it seems like it is confused on what it should be doing. They really screwed it up. I'm also not liking when I want to go scoped and it takes me back out of scoped. That really pisses me off. Plus, when I click "join game" choose my weapons and get going...HEY BF2 feels the need that I should have to click "join game" again!!! Yes...it takes me back to the "join game" screen again. So I get the pleasure of doing that twice at times. Lets see what else haven't I mentioned.......No firing tow missiles, AT rockets + tow missiles going the any veichle from any angle. Yes, just today actually I had a AT-rocket go through the top of a M1A2 and hit the ground underneath of it. Doing no damage to the tank. That was nice..... Thats about it for now. The AT-rocket through the top of the tank is about the newest addition to my list of "The ****** up things of BF2".
