March 28, 200619 yr Infantry: The choice of classes have been cut from seven to four basic roles, however, each one branches out into two sub-catagories that you can develop RPG-style as you rise in the games ranks. RECON Sniper and Spec-ops classes reside here. Both sport cloaking uniforms, you still have a shadow since its a suite and not transparant, so getting used to going stealth will take time. The cloaking suite can not be activated while attacking. Other gadgets include a tracking bug that alert teamates to prime targets (some weapons will actualy automatically home in on the bug) and EMP grenades that immobilize vehicals and blind infantry. ASSUALT This is were I gets exciting guys, BIG ASS GUNS that still have grenade luanchers but heres where it gets nice, the grenade will only detonate when it hits a live target over a certain ditance. If it falls short or just dosent hit anything your nade is NOT lost it will turn into a proxy mine (claymore).....SWEET! Other stuff will be added but not relased. SUPPORT Enigneers and Medics make up this class. Engineers will be able to deploy a hovering drone that will spot and fire on nearby troops, that thing you saw in the trailer.(downside is it gives away position and can be destroyed as well as knocked out with EMP nade, and auto destructs when owner is killed although the auto destruct is almost like an amped C4 explosion)sounds cool. For engineers of course mines, 4 different types. Only 2 were mentioned. Cluster mines: once detonated realsed numerous small explosion (not much was mentioned but I would imagine this would be for mechs). Hovering mines: if something in mine radius passes will blow if direct hit, but if passes nearby will hover and follow target until impact, if vehical is to fast (light transport) the transport can keep it on tail and whip it into enemys (the mine layers friendlys). Sounds cool. Not much on medic, but they usualy get the short end of the stick so I dont see EA giving them much. ANTI-TANK Very little mentioned although they will be equiped with both anti-ground and anti-air (FINIALLY!!!) Also have equipment to home in on and destroy tracking bug places by recon class. Also different types of weaponry to choose from (just not one type of rocket) The game as with other BF2 instalments induce teamwork. The commander role is getting redone, nothing mentioned though it did say there is going to be a whole lot more responsibility and a whole new menu/view. Squad leaders also get a new set up. Before bieng a squad leader was a burden, now its much easier. Before when the squad leader died, so did the ability to spawn on him. Now the squad leader can deploy a becon when a desired location is reached. To balance this the becon can be destroyed. Or if unwisely can be spawn camped by the enemy. But overall a good thing as now the squad leader can get into the action instead of falling back when the squad is infiltrating. Vehcials as seen look very cool, here is some brief info realsed on some of them: MECH The goliath of the game will be 20 ft tall (half the size of those staks in Dalian, map sizes will be bigger to make the thing fall into scale, ill mention more on maps and stuff later). The are heavily armored 2x as much as a tank. Equiped with AA on top of mech. Shoulder mounted and guided Anti tank (mouse guided like current AT), and anti-personall mini-guns on each "arm". And of cousr you can always "Stomp" on stuff...lol, as the magazine mentioned. Various mines, TOW, and tanks/apc, attack can bring it down. Also EMP will slow it down and kill the attack speed, and if enough EMP is induced can stop it dead in its tracks and stop it from "killing". APC Taken right out of Aliens the APC the EU transport will hold infantry as well as armorment. Mass EMP deployment and some sort of TOW, or cannon wepaon will be fitted. 4 closed ports ontop of the APC revials a new type of weaponry that dice was not ready to discuss but im sure will be nice. VTOLS Hovering vehicals that will be able to hover rotate and move about 360* (similar to helis, which thay happen to be replacing) with AA and AT weapons, no detailed information is givin on them. There will be VTOL transports and attacks vehicals TANK/JETS No information was givin as dice said they will leave a surprise for them in there may preview at the E3 expo(again ill metion more on this later). Will be big and bad though. The maps and enviornments will be different as well. A lot of cold land maps, no water (YES!). Its a battle for land, the terrian and maps will be take place over abandoned citys, fields, and other areas no longer inhibital by civilazatoin. Somewhat urban conflict will be inplaced. Night fighting might be a possibilty. Some current gadgets in SF mught be brough over in 2142, although DICE is not sure which ones (zip lines, grappeling hooks, night vision etc. and of course futureisitc ones) Maps will be a bit bigger to give the scale of the bigger vehicals and MECHS to feel VERY life like. They mentioned the realistic scale of BF2 will feel even more real in 2142, the MECHs will truly feel BIG. A lot of new weapons are still on the drawing board, for example the Rail Gun is still uinder considerations. They are finding it hard to balance the weapon considering it will be able to rip through 18-inch armor. Some other changes and over huals to the game include a new commander screen, more options, more responsilibty, a new type ov Arty and commander tools. Also the menu interface will be changed to since there are many issues with the current one. Once the game loads you will be greeted by menu options such as a new ranks and progression chart, server favorites, and a new buddy list. Click on your buddys name and you can chat over VOIP if enabled on server there on and then connect if desired. Server refresh times will be GREATLY reduced from whatthey are now the magazine says. March 28, 200619 yr Wow that kind of gets me excited, one thing i would really like to see added is the ability for squad leader to talk to another squad leader for better corrdinated attacks and add that extra pinch of teamwork.
March 28, 200619 yr Some of that does sound cool. I just hope they can put it all together a hole hell of a lot better then they did BF2.
March 28, 200619 yr Wow that looks great.... bf 2142 is gonna be alot of fun. I'll be signing up for the beta when released to the public
March 28, 200619 yr Wow that looks great.... bf 2142 is gonna be alot of fun. I'll be signing up for the beta when released to the public hopefully they will do the same thing as they did with bf2, release a demo with one map so we can test it out.
March 28, 200619 yr hopefully they will do the same thing as they did with bf2, release a demo with one map so we can test it out. Am I the only one who had more fun doing that then actully playing the full game?
March 28, 200619 yr The only thing that concerns me is the proxy grenade thing. Thas the last thing a BF game needs, a claymore launcher....
March 29, 200619 yr Both sport cloaking uniforms, you still have a shadow since its a suite and not transparant, so getting used to going stealth will take time Well that's not good for those who have to turn off the shadows because their pc's can't handle the high graphics, that's not a fair, because then they will be invisiable cause with shadows not showing there is no way to see them. Oh-Oh. Whens the release set for? Well according to the trailor, sometime in the fall, 2006.
March 30, 200619 yr A large four-legged walking tank with a big gun on top would be awesome! and it definatly sounds like DICE has learned from their mistakes. Though the grenade launcher still sounds itchy. It will become a prox. mine if it doesn't hit, but that just means it will explode once the person you shot it at moves
March 30, 200619 yr If they have a rail gun, it should be some type of heavy tank system. And make it so it only fires every 30 seconds, it would be a good anit-mech weapon.
