Computer Horror Story

Featured Replies

Well today had been a very long day for me. A computer virus locked out my Norton Internet Security and would not allow me to do a virus scan or remove the virus. I had tried every possible way to get rid of the virus. Then funny thing is that it told me it was a virus but it did not give me the name of it. I figured, what the hell, the computer still runs fine. But not a day later and my computer was moving slower than a slug. Currently now I am Reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows XP on my other computer. Which means I will have to download all the new updates, Service Pack 2, Norton Anti-Virus and of couser Battlefield 2 Special Forces. Lucikly I saved all the patches on a CD. Sorry for the rambling, but there is a very important moral to this story.

UPDATE YOUR VIRUS PROTECTION Daily

I would reccomend backing up all your data on a regular basis as well.

Well thats my horror stroy and as soon as its done installing, I hope to see you all on the battlefield soon.

once you get Xp, patches/updates and all the games you want installed, make an image of it to cd (will take multiple cd's). This will save you about 3 hours come reload time.
that sucks. even if your virus def's are up to date, new viruses pop out all the time and it takes symantec/etc a while to put out an update. you may have just been one of the first people to get that virus.
I had a similar problem with nortin. you didn't have to reinstall xp. go into safe mode and run nortin anti-virus, and anti-spyware. that would of taken care of the problem, then after your system is clean reboot into normal mode.

Hard drives are sooooo inexpensive today. I would get a sizable drive and backup the whole drive by copying everything from one drive to the other.

It is easy to do and is best done overnight b/c of the time involved but once a backup is made. It is an easy way to stay safe.

Now if I were Fatty, He runs a file server and everything is backed up daily on his home network.

I tired to run Norton is safe mode as well as try the free virus scanner by symantec. The virus scanner always froze on this one particular file. I uinstalled Norton and installed bit defender and it also froze on this one particular file. Very wierd.
if you look on norton's site, they have a search function that you could have used to look up a way to manually remove viruses, if you could have found out the name of the virus.

Download both of these, update them. Then go into Safe mode only 'Not Safe mode with network' then run anti-puper 1st, then Kaspersky Anti-virus. If this doesn't work then you can always do a clean install.

Hope this helps.
