Apparently there's also a freakishly huge amount of gas going to China for some huge construction project they're doing.

I heard something about more gas going to China, just another reason for gas prices going up, somewhere. I forgot where I heard it.

But yeah, there is so much freakin oil that we could have if the hippies would be quiet.

Also it would be nice if we started using a different kind of fuel. For example, I saw something on TV ( I think either discovery or history channel ) about BMW having a Hydrogen powered car. That was about a year ago. Apparently the car was very reliable and was just as powerful as most cars nowadays. I don't really know what ever happened to that project.....

Inventors of ways to greatly increase gas mileage have come and gone since 1970's when I remember seeing one on tv that got up to 80 mpg. Dunno if they were bought out by oil companies. I imagine our governments would be concerned by too great a redcution in oil demand as prices would drop and so would tax income from it. Economic and tax concerns ? It's just a thoguth of mine. Concerning gradual increases in mpgs instead of big increases. Many a politician has had big interest in oil company profits.

can anyone say yangtze river damn project? that project alone is enough to up china's fuel usage a few % just for the simple fact that they are planning on flooding so much land that a billion people are having to pick up camp and move to higher ground. thats not to mention fuel used on the project itself, moving millions of tons of earth, rerouting a river comparable to the mississippi...

then theres the rest of china's building boom thats been driving the price of building materials in the US through the roof.

Shhhhhhhh! You live in Alberta where there is no tax. Try Ontario when you have to add another 15 percent on top of the price.

Klink next time your in a gas station look for the little sticker with a pie diagram in it. It's not 15% more like 42%. I know i had to put those stickers on myself one day at work.

However you look at it we're all royally screwed.

4- federal and state taxes on top of already high prices (for example: 60c in CA). Also they've allowed the oil companies to form monopolies. Don't blame the company for wanting to make money. Blame the government from inhibiting the market; they're in it together.

and if your state has a sales tax they tax the tax they are charging you. i know in MI where i live we pay .50$ a gall in tax, fed and state, then ave a 6% sales tak applied to the total afet the gas taxes. grrrrrr....

And there's the darn stock market where I don't think barrels of oil should be for traders to effect prices. Many big traders panic from news like war in middle east, Iran defiant to U.N. about refined uranium, etc... troubling news spells trouble for buyers of gas.

The Honda and Toyota are not that good. Sure they help but not as much as you think. They really dont get that good of gas mileage. In the city is where they can get better mileage b/c of the regenerative breaking and electric acceleration assist. However on the highway. They are no better than the avegage Midsize car b/c they have the extra battery weight.

So expect to see 30 to 35 hwy and maybe 40 to 45 city if you are lucky. Go to Consumer Digest or other site and read the latest reviews. They counter what they origionally thought.

Your best bet is to pick up a used small econobox. I bought a used 1994 Mazda 323 2 door last year. I get 30mpg city and 40hwy. The car cost $1250 plus a few hundred more for repairs. There is no way the Toyota or Honda will ever be able to make it worth my while to buy them. You'll/I'll never recoup the origional expense to offset the small difference in increased mileage. Then factor in less insurance. Easier to repair. Parts are cheap. Good used cars Rock.
