Are there English Classes in School at All?

Featured Replies

Tonight, I was perusing some forums for BF2 and after looking around and being bored I started to realize how many grammatical errors and spelling errors people make. I can understand some errors as you type quickly or just don't care. By the way, when someone is corrected for grammar or spelling online, their favorite excuse to cover their stupidity is that they just don't care. You should care about spelling and grammar. A lack of skills in this area makes one look unintelligent.

Some of my favorites:

" all of the sudden" should be "all of a sudden"

"your" when it should be "you're"

"then" when it should be "than"

There are so many more that I can't remember but I guess I am just in a poor mood or something but come on people brighten up.

Maybe they speak Engrish.

There are english classes in school. More kids nowadays are talking through IM programs though. If that is your primary communcations to everyone then you always try to find the shortest way to get your point acrossed. 99% of the time the person on the other end knows what you are saying. So why say "what" when you can say "wut"? Teachers and some pyschologist are worried about that though. Kids are talking more through instant messeging and text messeges over the phone so much, that there communcation skills in person are going to be hindered later in life. They wont be able to learn how to read body language, facial expressions, and tone of voices to pick up anger or sarcasim.

Its a hell of a topic Klink and I can see why teachers and others are worried about children these days.

Another weird thing is instead of confrontation with someone "face to face" they settle arguements over via IM or text messeging one another. Where is the fun in that?!?!??!

english classes stop in 8th grade(here at least). everything after that is called literature.

because apparently having a teacher tell a student what he/she thinks a poem means is more important than teaching actual grammar or spelling. its also much more useful in the real world.

/sarcasm off
