I don't know how many of you get a chance to watch TV, but I have found a pretty interesting show on the Discovery channel. Its called Future Weapons and it is hosted by an ex-navy seal. So far the first 4 episodes have been very cool. You guys should check it out. It comes on at 8 CST on Wednesdays.

Ex. of an episode

DSC — FutureWeapons

No Place to Hide

From guns that shoot around corners to the worlds most advanced supersonic jet fighter, to the mighty Panzer Howitzer field cannon, these weapons leave the enemy no place to hide. If you think you're safe, in a bunker, think again.

did you see the one with the gps guided arty shells

Heck yeah!!! I saw that one last night. Thats some pretty sweet stuff there!
Great show very interesting did you see the gun that shot 1,000,000 rounds a min! With no movable parts either, its impressive and scary!
Yeah, the gun is made by a company called MetalStorm. I saw that weapon a few years ago in Popular Science. It would be cool to see that sort of thing be used in bombardment situations.

I love how they are making all these siege weapons, but we don't have sieges anymore... The USA comes in and blows them up. Canada and France whine about it. But it ends fast =D.

NOTE: That isn't a reference to the situation in modern day Iraq, that is a whole Cluster F**k

Wonder if they have it in High Def?

It is getting more mouse click and shoot today. There is going to be more of it in the future. Remember that old Star Trek episode where the two nations computers figured out who died in the simulated computer attacks. Can you see it evolving right now.

As far as close combat. That will never die. There will always be a need for 50 or so peeps to be dropped in to do the dirty work. Large scale. Probably not but definately need peeps for the low down dirty work.

Long range cannons. LOL. Thats why we retired the Iowa and Missouri. No need amd they cost too much money to operate.

I've seen that episode!!! I am a little bit of a trekky. I don't watch much anymore though.

Just another addin...I just watched the episode with the direct energy weapons, and the LRAD is pretty sweet. It uses sound waves to disable personel.

The sound waves from my buses and passengers are enough to disable me. :(

I love Discovery channel and History channel. But the Discovery Channel email I get about shows is for U.S. so has not been what our Canadian Shaw tv Discovery channel shows. ;)

I'll watch for them, thanks. :D

I saw the episode on SWORDS and the Thor missile launcher. Sweet schtuff. Im looking forward to the XM-25. Its a 25mm SMART machine gun whose bullets can adjust in mid flight. It can also be operated remotely or programmed to cap anyone who enters its field of fire. The crazy thing is: It's finished, they just need to refine it and get the cost of shells down.

A shame the OICW project is on hold : ( The XM 8 was really looking good, and they are really close to meeting weight requirements for the entire weapon system (20mm launcher/5.56 mm NATO rifle)

The U.S military's XM8 program was cancelled in fall 2005 after being suspended earlier in the year. Independent work by H&K on the XM8 has continued. It was altered and entered as a candidate for the SCAR competition but was unsuccessful.

;)

I like the idea of air-burst rounds I saw in one of these shows before though. Shoot through a window and they explode in mid-air, shooting sharpenal everywhere

That's how I've always imagined it. Imagine just a bunch of sentry systems like the Metalstorm hidden. If anything moves in that air, millions of rounds are unloaded on it in seconds.

And for invasions, it'd simply be a series of airstrikes and artillery bombardments from miles away, with infantry just walking in to officially claim the area.

We just processed some special steel in my department for a customer that is going into the tips of AP ammo for some USA weapon. We have been doing it regularly for about 2 years. Unfortunatly the grade is not listed so I cannot see what it is made of. One thing for certain is it is heavier, pound's per inch, than most of the stuff we make. We have been doing a lot of Titanium too. When we grind TI it is like Magnesium buring. Bright as all get out.
