Posted May 31, 200619 yr Source: ExtremeTech Battlefield 2 We ran Battlefield 2 in both its native un-patched state and with the latest 1.3 patch, and both of them seemed to work just fine. There's one significant gotcha that crept up several times in our testing: Punkbuster. The Punkbuster anti-cheating code is a common part of many online games (particularly shooters), and it works by scanning game files to make sure they're not compromised. Most Battlefield 2 servers have Punkbuster enabled, and when we joined one, we got promptly kicked out of the game with a message saying Punkbuster failed due to "inadequate O/S privelages." May 31, 200619 yr I don't think that BF2 works well with any OS, much less a beta version of an OS that won't be worth a crap for a service pack or two. I mean, WinXP didn't hit its advertised functionality until SP2, which was almost 4 years after it came out.
May 31, 200619 yr That is just the PB team needing to make it happen for Vista. Sort of like CHeating death and FA. Always one step behind the patches.
May 31, 200619 yr They said a few paragraphs later that all they needed to do was select "run program as administrator" and it worked fine. It looks like most games should/will work, as mac said some companies may just need to release some patches to go it to run properly.
May 31, 200619 yr That can be included in the patch. That is unless you have your comp and OS really locked down.
