if its like ea's other games they'll never get it rite. unless they hire some ppl to do it rite the first time.
I voted maybe and then 2 patches. Knowing the bf community, as soon as the game is released people will be picking it apart and chewing up looking for bugs/glitches and other ways to ridicule the game. It will take them a few patches for them to work everything out that the public has found in the game. (Estimate of 2 patches was based on the hope that 1 patch wont require another patch to fix bugs that the previous patch caused).
An optomistic realist here.

Hehe, I think that's an oxymoron... I think 2142 will be pretty well fixed in 3 patches, but won't quite be perfect. What game is?
finish the trilogy.

I think you forgot about Vietnam which, tecnically makes BF2 the third installment.
I would like to be optimistic, and think that EA would have learned their lesson and finally figured it out. But, we all know that wont be true. :)
EA has released some good games so I said maybe, Battlefield 2 was/is quite buggy but its still a good game, I think maybe they just made BF2 a bit to advanced for themselves and probably wont make the same mistakes twice.(hopefully)

Unless things have changed drastically since I've read that blog from a wife of an EA coder over a year ago, the answer is YES, it will be buggy.

14 hour days, 7 days a week, almost constantly. So much overwork=a bunch of mistakes.

Unfortunatley, it's very tough for a coder to design a game that will work on EVERY system out there. there are soooo many configs, it's insane. It will have 3 patches most likely, since they have to deal with all the issues that come up for individual PC makes/configs.

I thought about being a game coder...but it would take the "fun" outta the game if I had to sit and do that. 14 hours a day...7 days a week...that's INSANE for any job...I did 18 hours a day 7 days a week with 2 days off a month if I was LUCKY when I was in the Air Force...Hence I'm not in anymore.............

Rockett

Yes - 3 patches

I went with my gut on this one. Was difficult to decide between 2 and 3. The game will definately go through many changes as people find ways to exploit various parts of the game or use existing features far beyond their intentions. Nerf for the win!

i voted never cuz let's face it the second that game hit's the shelf all other attempts to fix bug's with be half(3 letter word for butt) cuz they'll be too busy working on the next game to soak us with.or maybe they'll throw in a couple of 10$ booster packs with the stuff we should have had to begin with.or maybe a expansion with more stuff we should have just got with the first copy of the game we(or rather you all,cuz i'm not getting it) buy.

Couldn't have said it any better. :)

It most likely has to do with SQA (software quality assurance)

They must not be doing their jobs to well and developing accurate test plans to regress bugs. I can just image how much code they have to test. And don't ever think code is released bug free. It's also hinged to a time of delivery, scheduling, and resources issue.

Thank you for understanding and your patience.

The EA Dev Team. :)

My prediction is that they will continue to push the hardware requirements with little room left for lower res options for hardware laggers, which means more and more of the same becasue I feel leaving little allowance for older hardware means drivers for even some newer mobos and vid cards are playing catch up themselves.
i think this will be pretty much the same as bf2. EA as they stand now still has not fixed the original BF2 game. Instead they pull more of our money into booster packs as other of yous have said before. WIth how they have bf2 now if they act like this for bf2142 it will be just as buggy

Hmm.... I'm betting on them using 2 patchs.

I remain cautiously optimitic on how well this game will work and if it will be fun. EA and Dice have done some really nice ones in the past but I'm not to sure on this ones outcome. Cross your fingers and hope not to die.

Everytime, there is always a first patch on any games if you can watch that on your own old/new games or your friend's old games...

Egidio.

The way i see it there is no possible way to fix all the bugs. No one can make a perfect game. 2142 will have its bugs but with this new patch for BF2 coming out EA might have learned a valuable lesson at least i hope they have.
