June 5, 200619 yr Okay, my girlfriend and I have been going on about this for months. If you play a game on your computer, she says it's a computer game; you can't call it a video game unless you play it on a console. I'm saying it's a video game no matter what. Who is right?
June 5, 200619 yr Hello undertone it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums? uh yeah... so. video games sounds cooler. right.
June 5, 200619 yr Computer Games. Generally when I ask someone what gams they play, they list off the names of their favorite games. Now, if you ask what kind of games they like to play, it's either console or computer. Video Games means all encompassing, where as computer games means games on the computer. In short, you are both right.
June 5, 200619 yr video game:A type of machine that uses a video monitor or television to display graphic images representing games. (includes computers and consoles and upright arcade games) computer game: a game played against a computer.
June 5, 200619 yr Video game encompasses any game as long as it is using a television or some other means to project an image. Computer game means ONLY a game played on a computer. Video game is a broader term, that's all. You can call a game on the computer a computer game OR a video game but cannot call a game on a console a computer game because it's not true. Remember this....

June 5, 200619 yr Or you could call it..... MY WALLET JUST BURST INTO FLAMES!!!!!!! because they cost so much!
June 5, 200619 yr The way consoles are going these days you might as well call them computers Note that you still called them console though. Until they become computers, they will remain console.
June 6, 200619 yr video game:A type of machine that uses a video monitor or television to display graphic images representing games. (includes computers and consoles and upright arcade games) computer game: a game played against a computer. Sound the same as I mean too:Video games are games programmed in 4 and 8 bits, and up now, for consoles and arcades processors. Computer games are games programmed in 8, 16/32 and 64 bits for computers processors. Egidio.
June 6, 200619 yr hmm..never really though of this. I guess video games would ecompass any type of console, don't really use video game to talk about anything i play on the computer.

Tricky one..... There are computer games without video and by some aspects there are older video games which are marginally computers by the way we term them. If you were born during the time when video games were first coming out you can easily see the distinction. Video game usually means video console game that is dedicated to the purpose - computer game usually means the computer can be used for other activites like spreadsheets and word processing. Oh and usually video games are played with analog controllers like joysticks, push buttons, trackballs, spinners, or special controllers. PC's usually use the mouse and keyboard. Here is a formal separation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game
June 8, 200619 yr Computer Game Video games are played on teh TV. PC gaming for teh winz0rs. What makes a video game a computer game is the amount of l33t used by its players.

June 8, 200619 yr a video game a video game sorry buddy.but for further use next time just agree /w her nood and smile and everything will be ok. there is nothing a woman likes better than to hear she is right!!!!
June 8, 200619 yr Video game is a broader term, that's all. You can call a game on the computer a computer game OR a video game but cannot call a game on a console a computer game because it's not true. Remember this.... this is almost true right now with the 360 and the soon to be PS3.... I agree a video game means pretty much any game that is play on a type of monitor. While computer game is just on the computer. To answer your question though. I would choose both because they are called the same thing.
June 8, 200619 yr I would say Video Games are Computer Games and Computer Games are Video Games. The term computer game is just anoter classification such as X-Box game, GameCube Game, or PS2 game. Also, as Phrogg tried to hit on, with the new consoles comming out such as the 360 and PS3 the lines are getting rather blurry between consoles and PC's. The only thing keeping the consoles frome being full fledged PC is the fact that you cant do spreadsheets and other various things like Merc had hit on.
June 8, 200619 yr Computer games are video games, but not all video games are computer games. FireArms is a computer game that also adheres to the description of a video game, but Super Smash Brothers is just a video game.
