DSL vs Cable

Featured Replies

My cable company is switching over to road runner. Which means i'm going to also have to switch my email. ;) :flame: Anyways, what is everyones thoughts on DSL vs Cable? I was thinking of switching to Verizon DSL, but i'm not sure how that would effect me playing BF2 etc. Am i better off staying cable?
If you can't get Verizon FIOS (fiber) don't go with Verizon at all.

Just what I was thinking. DSL is usually slower that Cable. FIOS is the best "IF" you can get it.
In heirarchy of bandwidth it is as follows

#1 - Fiber (Surewest here in Sac, CA)

#2 - Cable (Comcast)

#3 - DSL

#4 - Satellite

#5 - Dial Up

I think thats about right. But I'd choose cable over DSL.

Jpenn's right. follow this guide line and you'll be ok.
I have DSL, but I think mine should be smack in the middle between #4 and 5. Our provider isn't very good and the bad thing is they're our only provider in our area so I'm stuck with crappy DSL...

I have had both. Cable all the way vs DSL. All the bad things people say about cable haven't been true for me. I have never lost connection and my speeds are always great.

When I had DSL it was perfectly fine and conistent but no where as fast as my cable.

Ive used both as well and cable blows DSL away by far. Stick with the cable

OMG! Get Verizon FIOS if available.

Fiber connection.....

If only DSL and Cable available and bandwith speed is the same between the two I would take DSL since its more your own circuit.

You should ask people in you area what they like/dislike about their service. You can also go to www.broadbandreports.com and check the services in you area.
Tanks for the recon all. :flame: TigerHawk and I have often considered switching from our cable to dsl due to bad speed times. In seeign your opinions we figure it's a trade off maybe for our area. Faster speed at cost of occaisional lag. ;)

I am on cable and connected 24/24h a day also when I turn off the computer and turn on it again instead a friend on dsl, he does enter each time his user name and password when he want to connect to his dsl provider also when he shut down and relaunch the internet explorer???

Egidio.
