By the end of July I'll have 600 dollars towards a new computer. And President Bush, is giving 400 dollars to each child under 18 this month. So my Mom will recieve a check for 400 dollars. She said I could have the 400. So now I'll have 1,000 American Dollars towards a new computer. Whats my best deal for 1 Grand? Only thing I use a computer for is, Internet and Games.Let meh know and I'll be a happy camper :!:

slightly stated that wrong, the parent of a child under 18 living in the household gets the check. But mom said I could have it so if there was 3 children in the family then its 1200.

-BornToDie]Send a p/m to Okibi he is the perfect person to help you : he works & repair computers...

Egidio.

why do Okibi and I get confused all the time

we somewhat look alike

collect weaponry

are into weird and sometimes obscure bands

I build, repair, customize computers

I also do web design, programming, and also vast experience in networking and admining a linux based network

try building it yourself

I recommend AMD for overclocking and gaming but Intels are ok too

www.pricewatch.com is a good site

dell has some pretty good prices...this is a new one on me but its got new deals: http://www.ibuypower.com (saw it in a magazine). 8)

I dont know about IBuyPower, my friend ordered one and it didnt work at all. He ordered it with a monitor and the monitor just turned blue, he tried a dif monitor and same thing happened, i would be careful with IBuyPower.

Get just about any N-force 2 motherboard. Make sure it is compatible with the new Barton 400fsb core AMD chips though. $100 give or take.Get a GF FX 5600. Fast enough and Direct X 9 compatible. $130Get a XP 1700 for Starters. $45Get a nice case. $50Get a GOOD powersupply. $40Get THE BEST/FASTEST MEMORY you can afford. 512mb. 256 will do so you can buy more when you need more. $60Get a 40 gig HD. Buy more GB when you need more. $60The Mobo has built in sound and NIC so they do need to be bought.Get a CD burner as your main CD drive. $45Get the Thermaltake SK7 heat sink. $20Get a variable speed 80mm fan for it. $10That is about all you need and it is in your price range. You will need a Monitor, keyboard, mouse (5 button) and speakers.

Good post Mac!

I agree with what Mac has suggested. He lists good basics that you can always improve on. However, I would make one suggestion:

Get either an ASUS or ABIT Nforce2 MB. I have had issues in the past with Gigabyte in particular, so stay away from them. Try to get one of the MBs with built-in ethernet, usb2, and firewire if you can afford it.

After you have bought your basics, then go out and improve on it:

Mac's numbers add up to $560

Add ~$200 for a 19" monitor + $50 mouse + $50 keyboard

total now: $860

.leave ~$60 for shipping

so....

.add the extra 256MB RAM + $60

.add DVD rom ~$60 for the Slot loading type I think

As for where to buy it: I would suggest:

http://www.newegg.com

They have good prices, good customer approval ratings (bizrate.com), and do not ream you on shipping costs. The website is very easy to use with pictures of each product.

Good luck with this Scorpio,

B-Cell

p.s. if you want a pre-made system.... go buy a Dell (seriously).

ask mac under his suggestions and a few of my own im building a leet system for under 800 including a modded case and top of the line mobo and cpu.
I like doors on my cases, but nice regardless...So like... I'm 17, are my parents getting a $400 check for my brother and I? When did this start happening? There have got to be 100s of 1000s of parents with children under the age of 18... how is he getting that kind of money? (BTW, I don't watch the news much) When did this start happening?
Bush enacted a tax cut that went into effect about a month ago.You need to meet certain guidelines in order to get the tax relief. Income, children, the usual stuff. Can't make too much or too little. It also gives you get a break next year when filing your taxes with more relaxed tax tables. So your parents should get more back next January or so.
