Sorry for double-post here, but I've been working on a new signature for both personal gain and for a buddy who is a fan of Silent Hill.

I'd like to get opinions on this sig as well as the other.

*** Due to the slightly risque nature of the monster portrayed (albeit, nothing in comparison to some/most of the things on TV), I am simply linking as opposed to [ IMG ] coding. ***

Note: I am unhappy with the text placement, and, as this is still a partial WiP (Work in Progress), suggestions are gratefully accepted. Also, as I've had people ask already, the background was, indeed, made from scratch. [with the help of grunge brushes and whatnot, of course]

Thanks for all your help, everyone.. it makes a photoshop-nub feel good. ><;

i will say this once and only once...

you are doing very well Biscuit. i love the grunge style, and i think the text placement is very good. only 2 complaints. you should try to smooth some of it out, such as the scraping on the right side. the other complaint will never be fixed though; stop RPing :D .

anyway, i give your sigs 9/10.

:thumbsup: >:X

Very VERY impressive for your first tries. WAY better than mine were (I'm not even gonna show them cause they were that bad.) The only thing is the text in the second one. I know its a work in progress, but I'm going to suggest very subtle, simple text. I'm in no way, shape, or form good with text, but I'm starting to understand it better (thanks to a few members around here.) Other than that, I love grunge style. I don't do it as often anymore because I like to move onto different styles, most of which involving C4D renders and Stock Manipulation. Again, VERY good job man.

To make it noisy for instance take the background layer....Say a city scape and ....then duplicate it and filter it then erase the parts you don't want. Use glass for instance and then you will get little jagged edges all over all the contours but erase the one you don't want and you can have say only one building jagged in some parts. You can see this very clearly in Weihe's sig although I hate to say it isn't a very good job.

For text use your eraser brush with a spatter brush selected and lower the opacity of the eraser to say 50 percent and then dab it over the text to erase parts a little.

Read tutorials.

P.S. that second one is great.

I thought I'd bump this... 'cause I do have/am working on a new sig! The biggest suggestion I need here is text; I want it to be "calm." I need it to be clean, crisp, thin, and really kind of blended in to the background but I'm getting kind of frustrated because I can't nail the text effects I'm looking for!

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g317/MisterBiscuit/wip.jpg

Anyway, as you can see, this new sig is a bit of a more -- I believe this is the term the photoshop community uses -- abstract piece. My goal was to create a more smooth, clean (not grungy, really) sig with a colour balance that accentuates the whiter aspects and dumbs down the blacker parts but keeps them visible and recognizable.

As with some of my other sigs, I'm having troubles with the text. Any help as far as strategies to use here, blending options that don't make it too transparent, anything at all really that you think would help me make the sig better, please throw it at me. I tell ya what - There are no tutorials that give much help with text. ><;;

I understand my description of the text effect I'm looking for is quite terrible, but just give some suggestions and I'll toy around with 'em. I can also send a .PSD if anyone would prefer to work on the sig, too.

Now, in response to some of the posts I've been too lazy to reply to... >:]

the other complaint will never be fixed though; stop RPing

I don't wanna! ;_;

P.S. that second one is great.

Thanks. I'm rather fond of it and consider it to be my best work to date, despite still being unhappy with the text.

As far as the noise suggestion you offered goes, I'll experiment with it - I've done something similar, but I think I might have some brushes that accomplish the effect I'm searching for.

On tutorials, I'm definitely looking around, but having some serious troubles finding anything that matches the style I'm wanting to mirror, especially with text.

Very VERY impressive for your first tries.

Thanks. I've been experimenting with C4D renders (I'm not skilled enough to create my own sadly) and fractals and have been quite pleased with the results and right now I'm going back through my tech-abstract phase. I think what makes or breaks a sig is effectively the use of text in it, and that's why I really want to crack down on my text skills before I even try to progress further in brushing and colouring.

As detailed above, I really need help with text - suggestions, sites, whatever you can offer, I'll definitely look into them. I'm in a minimalist stage, so I want my text to be small and crisp.

I really appreciate the suggestions and comments, everyone. Thanks, once more, and another thanks in advance for further help!

try this font http://www.dafont.com/anderson-supercar.font

put it on a rather large size, i'd say 40, black color. Then try to position it in a place that will look good but wont stand out from the rest of the sig, maybe diagonal along those diagonal lines you have near the left side. Set the layer option to overlay, and make sure its in a spot where you can clearly see the text. After all that is done, give it an outer glow with the blending options.

Hope it turns out good, im going by what i can picture in my head :(

It's good that you mention this, actually; I went ahead and did as you said, word for word pretty much, but it's the part I quoted that I have troubles with. Parts of the text become near-invisble and that, obviously, won't work.Thinking that an outer glow would assist, I went ahead and gave it a white outer glow of 2 pixels at 60% opacity; still, parts of the text seemed invisible.

Are you familiar with this? How would I go about fixing it? Are there other blending options I should fiddle with? T___T

As I keep saying (because it feels so good), thanks and thanks in advance.

Well, everyone, this is my first attempt at a signature -- ever -- so I could REALLY use some harsh criticism. :(

As said above, please criticize! :(

<3,

the colour is too dark, the picture sucks... and Mr. Biscuit? damn, the lines make it difficult to see, the colours are too bland, the sig doesnt PWN my eyes like mine does... it instills ph34r into people...

Just kidding lol, it looks good,

Look at the other sigs, too, which I think are a bit higher quality. =)
