Posted January 16, 200718 yr I dont know if yall have heard about this show or not. It is called (as the title there suggests) Future Weapons. It comes on at 9:00 Eastern Time (-5 GMT) on the Discovery Channel. I am watching it right now for the first time, and I must say it is most excellent. The host was a Navy Seal for 10 years and he is kinda crazy in a creepy way. Its not that he is all gung-ho but he talks real quietly. Anyways on the episode today they showed the development of the new SMAW. One of the new rounds is awesome. It penetrates buildings and has a shot fuse so that it explodes a bit after it goes through the outer wall. That way it detonates inside the building and causes little collateral damage. They destroyed pretty sturdy wood and cinder block house with it. It basically just pushed all four of the walls out a few meters so the roof collapsed down and the walls toppled over. Very nice. They also went over the new AS50 rifle that the Brits are developing. It is a semi automatic .50BMG sniper rifle. It is nearly as accurate as modern bolt action sniper rifles, and can accurately fire 5 rounds in about 1.5 seconds. It takes out concrete like nothing, of course. It also penetrated a steel plate that was about .5 inches thick, went a few feet, then went through another .5 inches of steel with almost no deviation from its original path. Pretty awesome. Next week they are looking at the new types of body armor and a camera that can be shot out of a grenade launcher to give infantry a view of the battlefield from above.
January 16, 200718 yr Even though weapons are important for War....Why would you need something like that? .50 sniper rifle has to be the size of a shopping cart.....it might just be me but I think if I had a 9mm Glock 18....and you had a .50 sniper rifle....you might be able to kill me from 2 miles away....but I dont think I'll be out in the open long enough.....I'll just come run to you shoot you in the back with my pistol....while you try and lug ur heavy sniper rifle up to a Point blank range shoot postion.....although I must admit....having something that powerful does make you feel manly eh?
January 16, 200718 yr Author the point of having it is to take out targets behind walls and to take out armored targets. and good luck finding a well trained sniper let alone sneaking up on one.
January 16, 200718 yr The BMG..makes my mouth water. The beauty of it is the accessories...infra red scope....you don't have to be in plain sight:D
January 16, 200718 yr screw the .50 cal sniper rifle its all about the .50cal mashine gun or the the 30mm on the apache helicopter.
January 16, 200718 yr one thing i think it is an m220 a2 thats my fav weapon it fires i think its an 14 or 18 pound shape charge that can blow the turret off an m1 a1 ive seen it and done it for those who dont know it is a TOW can be fired from a tripod turtle humvee or bradly also a nice one is the nose gun on an A10 one of my jobs in the Army was a gunner with a TOW unit also an MK19 is nice as for a high powered rifle i like the m82 but that only supposed to be used on eq not people as the Geneva Conventions but if there waring boddy armor that eq to me might be wrong on some of the numbers its been a couple of years

The A10 fires 30 mm rounds which is the same as the apache helicopter but the apaches rounds are the baby version of the A10 they are a little smaller still 30 mm though.
January 16, 200718 yr told ya been a while learned a lot while i was training to be an 18 brovo sf weapons spec
January 16, 200718 yr And I've learned today that in the near future, the FPS's that will pretend to be realistic will be boring to play. Think of all this guided missiles, wall-haxes, 3-D battle maps available to all soldiers on the battlefield revealing the positions of all soldiers etc. etc. BORING!!!!!!!!!!
January 16, 200718 yr Author psha Geneva convention shmeneva convention. I dont think it is inhumane to kill somebody with a .50BMG. I think it is more humane than sitting there capping them with a low caliber rifle untill they have 5 holes in them and bleed to death. I mean really, if you get hit by a .50BMG you are most likely going to be dead real fast.

January 16, 200718 yr You need .50 cal sniper rifles because these kind of bullets and weapon systems are able to shoot targets more accurately at greater distances. Current "Longest Sniper Shot" record is around 2400 meters (1.49 miles) by the McMillian TAC-50. This was in Afghanistan in 2002. Lighter sniper rifles couldn't make this shot. Of course larger bullets allow for more penetration. I've heard stories of Special Forces snipers shooting enemy plane engines from long distances to disable enemy planes before they take off. A cheap weapon disables a million dollar piece of enemy fire power. It is a shame, but War as spawned many inventions, Atom Bomb being one of them. We could definately have a long debate over how war speeds up the invention process. What I look foward to is the new "Nano Armors". Companies are weaving nano strands 100 times smaller than that of a human hair to form body armors that work better than kevlar. The armor is flimsey until it gets hit, then the nano threads react and tighten up on impact to stop the bullet or explosion. The suit also measures key life functions and stores the info to a mini computer built into the suit. A medic will be able to walk up to you, plug into your mini computer with a USB cable and see: where you got hit, your vital signs and other info. And then he can take appropriate action.
January 16, 200718 yr Yeah, I saw some of it... I thought it was very interesting.. I'll be watching it whenever its on..
January 16, 200718 yr What seems like science fiction and impossible today, may be true in the year 2142. Check out the last link. http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/projects/MEDIA/xv/oc.html http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/projects/MEDIA/xv/images/oc-wired.mpg
January 16, 200718 yr I think they mentioed the AS-50 being around 35 pounds. Considering what it is able to accomplish, that seems pretty light.
January 17, 200718 yr Its a good show, Next week they have a 6 shot Grnade lancher. I love the 50cal snipers.... BF2142 follow suit plz...
January 17, 200718 yr Author yeah really. I would still play BF2142 if they had the .50BMG like on BF2. Can you download new models and skins for 2142? I love customizing games and making them completely different. Thats one of the things that kept me playing CSS for so long.
