ok.. first and foremost i am a quake player, which means Right mouse button is foward, and S is back with W as sprint

 

 

Very simple problem here, i load into game under my profile (harathoi) and have to reset S for back and Right mouse button for Foward, every time i lose foward and backwards keys...

 

any ideas? i am sure its a config file thats read only somewhere, but dunno where..

but then... who would keep you in check when you put those inconspicuous sentry guns out,... the devious ones K_town, that you put out the other night

There here is what to do if it says "unknown key" sometimes.

 

The Battlefield series has been buggy about double assigning keys. In BF2 you couldn't do it. In BF 2142 you can, but sometimes they conflict even when crossing control types "Common, Vehicle, Aircraft".

 

I suggest, if your changing your controls from the default config, make sure there is a key for every control option, even if you don't use it. Also make sure its not double assigned.

 

In my situation, I was using the "F" key for "Right Steer" on aircraft. By default, "F" is cycling weapons on aircraft. Since I don't cycle weapons, I use the number keys, I would leave cycle weapons blank.

 

I would then go and play and find that "Right Steer" wouldn't work. Checked my control keys and "Right Steer" showed "unknown" and Cycle weapons was back to "F".

 

I put "Right Steer" back to "F" and then assigned "Cycle Weapons" the "O" key which I'll never use. That fixed my problem.

 

Watch for double assigns and leave no control option unfilled.

i might try see if i can use MMB for the secondary fire on vehicles, thats the only thing thats bound to RMB at hte moment and might be causing the problem
