Northern Strike question

Featured Replies

So what exactly does Northern Strike add? I Assume some new maps. New guns? New vehicles? What? How good is it?

A link to a page with this info all in one place would be good :D :D

IT is great the new vehicles are fun. some of the unlocks are usefull. it is well worth the 10 dollars just for the 3 maps
Ya, finally EA released a decent pack. The maps are cool and moody. The snow is good and the dusk map looks good. Lotsa places to hide etc. Good goin EA finally releases a good pack and now Shaw cable is failing me.

well nonetheless I won't be getting it for about a month if I do decide to buy it. Hopefully FA:S will be in beta by then (fingers crossed)

I played some regular 2142 today. I was having a lot of fun sniping. I had a nice 13 kills streak where nobody knew where the hell I was was. Then a walker walked be and happened to turn and see me... then there were 5 enemies in our only spawn... *cry*

There are some really sweet unlocks. I picked up the "Motion Mine Bait" nades right off the bat. You throw one of these sweethearts, and all the motion mines in the area are drawn to them. After they hover over the nade a few seconds, they all blow up. Great way to clear the way for your armored guys, but I like to use them to spike vehicles who refuse to move into my mines. I've killed 1 goliath and several walkers by moving my mines into them using these nades. LOL

There's a universal unlock that gives you boots. They enhance your stamina recovery and allow you to take less damage from falling. I wasn't bothering with the universal unlocks... but now I want those boots so bad I actually started unlocking that tree more now.

Another nice note... there are extra badges and ribbons to win now, but they don't seem to award points. These new goodies actually award a free unlock! I've gotten 3 unlocks from Northern Strike Badges in the past week

Great booster pack, I highly recomend it.

What I find funny is that EA touted NS as an increase in the infantry fighting aspect of the game. I think its quite the opposite. NS heavily relies on vehicles. The only map in which the infantry fighting is intense is the Leipzig map and maybe a little of port Bavaria. Vehicles dominate NS.

There are no tanks either. Walkers, APC's, IFV and Hatchi's are all you get. I like the fact that there are multiple walkers on these maps. You read the map histories and many of tales of large walker battles, but the map only has one walker. This is not the case with NS. I've been involved in many large walker battles which can be exciting.

The maps are good as well. Port Bavaria and its L-Pod assault from below. Bridge at Remagen with its tight front area along with flowing lanes and bridgework. Liberation of Leipzig with its building work combined with sloping snow terrain and garbage clusters and walkways.

What is really good about all of these maps is Rail Gun placement. On the regular maps, railguns/AA guns are placed in terrible spots with buildings or other objects in the way of the most vital/needed shots. Not the case in NS, the placements are unhindered of buildings and often aim at long lanes where vehicles often travel. Many of the rail positions even have added barricade protection as well.

Even the commanders assets are grouped together more. Many times on regular maps a commander has to travel around or drop a supply crate for each individual asset. On maps like Port Bavaria, you can repair 3 of your 4 assets with just one supply crate drop. This is due to the assets being close together.

You actually reminded me of an experiance I had on Bridge at Remagen. I was on the EU side assaulting PAC. We took our side of the bridge and without realising it, I had "Set up shop". The bridge has 2 lanes, and a center area on each side. We had a walker in laying down suppressing fire from the center area and various vehicles coming down both lanes. I had them mined and whatnot, but what cracked me up is I ended up repairing every single vehicle that came thru there. I felt like I had opened up "Roach's Repair Depot". I didn't get alot of kills that round, but damn I sure racked up the repair points and felt like I was "Contributing".

Anyway, I do agree with your assessment Redfrost, the booster is definatly vehicle heavy (although port has so much cover, infantry on infantry is very common). I've seen 2 walkers vs 2 walkers, 3 Walkers vs a Walker and Goliath, ect.... it's freakin' insane!

I agree with Redfrost's comments. Except for maybe Leipzig, the other maps are more geared towards vehicles. But they're all pretty entertaining.

The Port Bavaria one can be frustrating on Titan if you're on a lousy team. If u can get that far silo and get the walker, with some good infantry backup you can keep all the 3 silos up top and take control of the shield depletion. I believe there's only one walker on that map? ( i may be wrong. only played it twice on titan and our team never had the walker so we were getting rocked).

I think the motion mine bait is the best new unlock by far. much better than leaving your walker and trudging up to the motion mines one by one and deactivating them. i haven't tried deadroach's approach to hucking the bait at enemy vehicles but now i know!

I played half an hour today and got Brigadier General, 2 Badges and 1 ribbon and all those unlocks lol.

Took the boots.

Took the extra rockets for Assault and

Took the longer life camo for the Recon.

I ended up with both bronze badges, both silver badges, a gold badge and 3 ribbons in less than 6 hours of playing the booster.

I only have 2 unlocks left to get. NS seems kinda short to me. Once I have those other 2 unlocks and the pin, there's nothing else for me in NS except just playing...

Anyone know where the thread was that lets you go into registry and manually change what version you have of 2142? I have no weapon/map descriptions and I want to reinstall the 1.2 patch..thanks.

I don't know, but I had the same problem... I uninstalled/reinstalled the entire thing and I am back up and running now.
