Posted April 24, 200718 yr Is anyone else fed up with the stupid newer rules about contact. The players can barely touch another guy and they get a penalty. Ruins the game for me. There has been some really good hockey in this years playoffs and then the refs call all kinds of crap. It's not their fault, they are good calls accordingto the rules but the rules are horrible. If they had this when Gretzkya nd Lemieux played those guys would have 200 goals a year.
April 24, 200718 yr I haven't really noticed anything - other than them getting tough on bull like Flame's back up goalie and Predators head hunting. I can only listen to the Dallas/Canucks game, so perhaps I've missed something, but I think the refs have done a pretty good job [maybe not this game though ].
April 24, 200718 yr Author Canucks win! Yes, the refs are fine it's just the rules they have to enforce I don't agree with.
April 24, 200718 yr I agree full bore Klink. I have never seen so many hooking calls before. For about a 2 min stretch of the Dallas game it was one after another. Not to mention the interference calls. Its making it a different game then what it used to be.
April 24, 200718 yr I don't get it: what's the point of watching a sport when you are not able to see a puck? Of all the on-ice sports curling is more interesting: at least a kettle is clearly visible and it's not moving fast.

Not to mention the interference calls. Its making it a different game then what it used to be. That was entirely that game. If you watched the Sharks or even the Ducks, you wouldn't have seen the same thing. The refs jacked that game up last night and I'm sure the league knows it. Even better is going to the rink - I could believe how easy it was to follow the puck from the upper deck at the Shark tank.
April 24, 200718 yr game 7 of the stars/canucks was weird it got down to 3/3 the refs were calling it like b-ball. man i thought modonao had that one timer to tie the game then when they pulled turco they couldnt keep the puck on the other side happend to a regular season game too.

Totally agree with what you said there, everyone is thinking that just because of the canucks/dallas game had a lot of penalties, doesn't mean there aren't any new rules the refs have to enforce.. Could have just been a coincidence. I have seen some really terrible calls tho in this year's playoffs, but sometimes u cant blame the refs, their P.O.V. isn't that clear sometimes. The rules are fine.
April 24, 200718 yr It used to be that the refs would sit on the whistles during the playoffs and let the players play. All this interference and hooking crap has got to go!! Especially since my much younger, much faster Sabres will be playing the old a** Rangers next round!!!! GO SABRES!!!!!!!
April 25, 200718 yr yeah the hooking calls are abusred i mean if they just touch the glove there is a penalty...i dont care cause my team still plays well go DEVILS!
April 25, 200718 yr the new rules about contact are bull, there were way to many interference and hooking call on both sides in the wings flames series. then the ref's missed some blatant calls (there were several in game 5; being punched in the face after delivering a clean hit for one.) it's out of control.
