May 16, 200718 yr Anyone here like to make gaming machines? My comp is 3 years old and I've dropped a new vid and sound card into it. I'm thinking Core Duo. Bueller, Bueller?
May 16, 200718 yr Well, I probably can't volunteer, as I have a tendency to over extend myself. However, I can share that I just finished putting together my new machine yesterday. I haven't really even had a chance to play with it yet. It's a 3 GHz Core 2 Duo, with 4 GB RAM, 500 GB RAID 5 Array, and an nVidia 8800 video card with 768 MB video RAM. I loaded up 2142 and was very pleased to be able to run the single player version of the game with video settings set to "High". Looks really great that way. I hope to be able to dive into some live action later today.
May 16, 200718 yr Author nice is it better now ???? i mean a whole lot better Enough to get by. I have to do certain things to ensure the framerate doesn't chug. I think I'm approaching the end of using this as a gaming machine. I'm trying to decide on whether to have Dell put one together for me or have it custom-made from pricewatch parts. Any advice would be appreciated. And thanks for the specs, it gives me something to shoot for.

With Dell parts, more expensive. See if you can get a quote from Pricewatch, and put what mobo etc YOU want in it. Also, it's not that hard to put one together yourself, and its much cheaper too.
May 16, 200718 yr So you are asking someone to help you build a new rig? if so whats the budget? and as Wolfey said stay away from Dell, and make sure you either get an AMD AM2 or Intel 775 socket mobo.
May 16, 200718 yr FYI, my system was $1,800 from TigerDirect.com . Because of my work needs, it's based around a rackmount chassis. I have the unique advantage of working from home, and having a job that requires access to high-ends graphics machines that just happen to also make good gaming machines.
May 16, 200718 yr I wish I would've known not to get Dell stuff. I have an E1505 laptop that with all the coupons and stuff I put in it, it was around 1200$...not bad for a machine that can play all the latest stuff and I can take it anywhere, which is awsome. Oh, and I would DEFINITELY recommend getting Dual Core proccessors. Mine is Intel Dual Core w/ 2.0ghz, each processor is only 1.0ghz so you think it wouldn't be that good, but mine actually runs faster than a Pentium 4 w/ 3.0ghz. Definitely recommending it, and I'm gauranteeing that you won't be dissapointed.
