This might just be a launching pad for The World of Starcraft. Either way it looks sweet.
You know what's so great about that IG footage? It looks like SC2 won't sacrifice any of the mobility/speed of units from SC1. It still looks like a fast-paced, fun, PRETTY RTS. If I didn't suck so bad at SC, I'd definitely put this on my to-buy list.

Hey you can suck and still enjoy it. People make custom scenario maps that are fun as hell and don't take much skill. I play Warcraft and those are all that I play. I rarely ever play regular games on it.

You'd have to know just how terrible I am at RTS in general.

The first time I played SC online -- ever -- I got Drone Rushed and destroyed. When I played WC3, pretty much the same story. I always got dominated.

I still liked SC, and WC for that matter, but... I'm just so bad at them. I mean.. really bad. Hopelessly bad.

Just going with what sneaky said, one reason why I loved the original SC so much was because people made all kinds of custom maps/game modes. I rarely ever played the "traditional" 2v2 etc.. game. Paintball with ghosts was a lot of fun :D
Disappointing. It seems just like the old one with better graphics, but even then, not the best by today's standards. Isn't intergrating any of the advances today's RTS games have made, no matter the ones that will be made by the time this actually comes out. I'll pass on it.

:D -uh oh, I have not had time to look into it...but you make it sound like they made the same mistake that was CnC3... :D I really hope that is not the case, SC deserves better.
Heh, if you thought CnC3 was bad... at least it had some new features. SC2 is basically the -same- game with upgraded, though outdated, graphics.

personally i think thats all SC needs

it was a great game and by all standards it still is

its all about gameplay

Novikov,

The graphics are good, they are just different. They are following Blizzard's style of graphics. It is similar to all of their other games (kinda cartoony looking)

And they are apparently changing the units around a lot. Plus they have a new engine that will be using real physics and enable massive battles.

It is pretty hard to go wrong here. They don't have to change much if they don't want to. I will still buy it. So will most SC1 fans. Essentially it is reviving the Starcraft community. Blizzard does things right. Best game company out there (in my opinion.)

Starcraft 2. The bomb dot com

I wanted Diablo 3 soo badly too. Oh well, another disapointment from Blizzard.

/opens Red Alert

Then Blizzard would have to compete with Flagship's Hellgate: London. They were smart to focus on Starcraft instead of going up against Diablo's original creators.

;)

i wanted a starcraft mmo so badly the mmo is in great need of a scifi one after nge hit swg.

Blizzard has stated that WoW is the only MMO they'll be working on for now. Besides, I believe there's a Firefly MMO in the works somewhere. I remember reading it in one of my Gamespy newsletters.

I would buy Diablo 3 over Hellgate any day. Just the name Diablo 3 makes me excited! I just read a preview that is kinda making me not want to get Hellgate.

I just can't see them doing another Diablo. He's dead now a million times over. What are they going to do? Ressurect him? That's like beating a dead horse... Heh.

I've been watching HG:L since it was first announced. I'm definitely getting the game because it looks great and is going to have some really nice gamplay features that will keep me playing for a long time. Replayability has always been a strong point with me and HG:L is promising just that. FSS has taken everything they've learned with the Diablo series and applying that knowledge to HG:L.

Maybe you read a bad preview? :D

No the thing that bother me about it is this: They are making it so that you have to options: Either just buy the game and play it and get your items like a normal, average person, or pay monthly to play it and get to jump in front of everyone in server queues, get elite items, new character classes, etc. Only the people who pay to play can create guilds. Other people can only be members.

That is what is pissing me off. I want to play a game that has NO monthly fees whatsoever. It is going to be just like Diablo 2 where everybody buys their items. It takes the challenge completely out of the game and just replaces it with profits for the money grubbing companies. I understand that it enables them to release more stuff, but seriously, make an MMO or don't. Don't do this crap. I for one won't be paying a monthly fee to play it. I have better things to do with my money (such as buy a new game :D )than to throw it away on a game that I already own.

Flagship disappointed me here. I was gung-ho for the game and now I am maybe not going to get it (though I probably will). Respect to the designers and all, but I am still disappointed.

Oh and I really do think that they have a Diablo III being planned. There have been little hints here and there about it, though nothing substantial. I remain ever optimistic for it, and while I wait I will supress the burning desire to have it by playing some SC2 :D

if you head over to IGN.com they have a big 20 minute video of some gameplay. Zealots now have a charge ability, so they really get to kick some arse! It was worth the 20 minutes, and at the end there is a nice 3 minute long battle with an excellent ending!

It's not money grubbing, it's network maintenance. They don't have Blizzard's endless supply of cash and server tech backing them up. Someone has to pay for the servers. The fact that they are even adding a free online option should be a good thing.

[The rest of this reply has been moved to the proper thread.]

Anyways, I'm getting off topic. :D

On topic though, the videos I've seen for SC2 do look nice. I never really got into SC much though, just when I go together with some mates and played a few multi rounds. Didn't get far into the single-player storyline either.

:D
