My Specs:

Hard Drive: 100 GB

Video Card: RADEON X300

Sound Card: NVIDIA? nForce? Audio

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

Graphics Driver Version: Catalyst 7.5

I get 25+ frames just about all the time, intense firefights with ragdolls folding all over the place brings me to 15, but thats the lowest I've seen. If you've got a sub-par PC like me, follow these steps to have a less laggy INS experience! http://forums.insmod.net/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Step 1: Make sure your display drivers are up to date. www.nvidia.com & www.ati.com depending on what card you have.

Step 2: Open Steam and right click Insurgency, then choose Properties. Now choose "Set Launch Options" and a text box will apear in a new window for the command, place this command to change the DirectX level to 8.1.

CODE

-dxlevel 81

You should be fine with the default DirectX 9 if you have an Nvidia 6800 or better, or just about any Nvidia 7 or 8 series card. For ATI users, have an ATI x800 or better or just about any x1k or x2k series card shouldn't need DirectX 8 as well.

Add this startup command as well to ensure your heapsize is properly noted, if not you might have slow loading times.

CODE

-heapsize <number>

Here are numbers you should put based on your total ram.

2 gigs - 1048576

1 gig - 524288

512 megs - 262144

256 megs - 131072

128 megs - 65536 (you should consider buying more ram)

Step 4: Now, Open the game and go to the Keyboard tab in Options and choose Advanced, make sure the "~ Opens Developer Console" Or whatever option is turned on. Then press the ~, which is below Esc. This opens the console. Now enter these commands to raise your rates:

CODE

cl_cmdrate 101

CODE

cl_updaterate 101

For 95% of people playing this mod, these rates are fine. If you are one of the select few who might experience a lot of choke because of your slim bandwidth, lower them to 67 and see if that helps, use trial and error to find the highest number for your connection. I had to add this disclaimer because dunesw64 was being an immature jerk throughout this thread about rates.

Step 5: Before joining a server, set everything in the video menu as low as possible, textures could stay at medium, but everything should be low, that includes turning off AA and HDR. Go to the Video tab and click Advanced to adjust it manually.

Step 6: Check out my High FPS config here.

maybe it will help some people who play

Wow.

I have the latest Nvidia driver with all settings on the lowest, 640x480 res, and yet this guy with a comp hundreds of dollars worse than mine is gettin far more FPS than me lol.

Sweet.

not sure if it works, but someone try forcing the DX level to 7... might look like Quake, but it COULD make it run better.
