agreed I think he is very luckuy. Something bothered me though after the fall he gets up and slowly walks away. If something like that happens you would think medical personnell would put him on a stretcher and wheel him quickly to the hospital just in case. Also did you notice that the few people who did help had nothing to help with. No neck braces nothing. Wierd to me!

if your moving under your own power and can get up and walk away you dont have a neck injury

they did put him on a stretcher once he got off the floor and he went striaght to the hospital

Because if he doesn't need a neck brace, he doesn't need one. He clearly didn't need a neck brace. He didn't break any bones. The show went to a commercial and after probably a couple of minutes the medics found nothing was broken and Jake probably asked if he could walk out on his own.

What a lucky son of a B. If he hadn't turned his body at the last second... man I don't know if he would be alive.

heres the whole video

you can see the medics are their immediatly

he landed just right

ive had some high falls rockclimbing

he couldnt have landed any better

Same vids.

And yeah, I agree with you, these guys are pros at falling. Seriously, if he hadn't turned at the last second to his back, he would have broken his feet, possible broke his back, then smashed his face in.

yeah i saw that eirlyer looked like it hurt didn't see anything after the fall tho

edit: just saw the rest of it, he could of killed himself if he ollied any further away from the ramp

wow, that is just crazy, man if i were the next guy about to go down that ramp i would be freaked about falling, but i guess they do have experience on how to fall "correctly"

its 50 ft. and this is really crazy. i couldnt help say a 4 letter word when i saw this live

actually under the right circumstances you can walk around for days with a broken neck, even with him getting up and walking around, the proper procedure would have been to put him on a stretcher with a neck brace. Sort of like if you've been in the hospital its policy to wheel you out in a wheel chair when your discharged, regardless of if your fine or not

They way he fell couldn't have been done any better in that situation. I not entirely sure how it goes, but I know in the military, they teach you some hit procedure when your in airborne school. It goes from landing on your feet at a slight angle. This way your body just kind of rolls ot the ground hitting your feet, thighs, hips, lower torso, then upper torso.

I tell you one thing though, I bet he is happy as hell to have had that helmet on. I was just watching how is head flew back. Talk about whiplash....

the key is tucking your head up against your chest, as most death's from falling occur from damage to the head

tahts from a certian distance. will it help from a 50 foot fall? no idea

and the wheelchair thing in hospital i bet is for liability issues

ya it is, which is why in most cases if you hit your head, even in a minor injury, and you have to be put in a stretcher, theyll do the neckbrace just in case

It would help from almost any distance, given it isn't outrageous. It disperse your moment/force across more of an area then just one place.

I remember reading something about how if somebody executed the proper landing thing for parachuting (like airborne guys) *perfectly* they could reduce a fall from any height to 25 mph

So if you're falling from 25000 feet and you somehow managed to execute it perfectly you might live

Highly doubt it though, you wouldn't have time to do the roll when you're going so fast

I think termal velocity is around 160 or so mph. Once you reach that speed in can not get going any faster unless straighten your body and aim in down. So if you can reduce that to 25 mph....GOOD FOR YOU!!! Something I really don't want to try......

I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I SPLAT!!!!!

while in airborne school they teach you to land like that because they are trying to reduce minor injuries like strains and sprangs and twisted ankles and broken bones

when your falling much faster landing like that would shatter you legs

and would do much more damage to your legs and potentially pelvis and abodomin

they way he landed is the best because his head is protected for the most part and his torso while taking a large deceleration has nothing punturing it

i had a friend who rock climbed that due to a malfunction died from falling from 80ft and landing on his feet

his legs both shattered and femur broke through his hip into his abdomin

causing internal damage and died hours later at the hospital

would he have lived had he fallen flat

probably not

but any hieght that you fall from and can live landing flat on your back

you will much worse off landing flat on your feet

I can only imagine what was going through his head as he sees his momentum going the wrong way. gnarly. :)
