September 7, 200718 yr So, Wifey said "Klif, let's get a new computer". I said "HECK YEAH". Here's the given: We're going through Dell.com, and it has to be less than $1,000 (USD). Please don't refute the Dell issue. Now, we found an advertisment for the Dell XPS 410 at $1099. She's willing to do that, and I think it's a fine machine. What I need from you is confirmation! Will I be able to game sufficiently with this computer? Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 at 2.40GHz Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 20" Widescreen Flat Panel (E207WFP) 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 Memory 320GB Hard Drive EDIT: Video Card: 128MB nVidia GeForce 8300 GS Also, what game(s) does The Armoury play these days, as a clan? Which games should I buy at the same time I get the computer? Thanks! --The Klif dv

September 7, 200718 yr What kind of graphics card does it have? It looks fine though, should be able to play up and coming games. We officially play Battlefield 2142 but it's dieing off and bigger and better things are on the horizon.

September 7, 200718 yr Author Sorry, I forgot the graphics card: 128MB nVidia GeForce 8300 GS Which I assume is integrated, yes? It does offer three upgrades: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 [add $100 or $3/month1] 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS [add $200 or $6/month1] 768MB nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX [add $600 or $18/month1] But remember, I have to keep it under $1000, and it's already over! (I editted the OP for clarification)

I loved CoD 1 & 2. My current computer can't play 3. So I look forward to 4!

September 7, 200718 yr 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 [add $100 or $3/month1] You better at least get the above card and don't buy chewing gum for a week or something.

September 7, 200718 yr You know, you might be better off purchasing the graphics card separately when you can afford it. You can get a 320Mb 8800 GTS for <$300 and that will handle even upcoming games. Excluding that, I'd get the 8600 GT as that selection might alter PCI-E power availability in the system (as opposed to the integrated). Of course, I am not certain how Dell handles the components.

September 7, 200718 yr Author Do you need the monitor? if not maybe that can bring the price down for you??? oh, man! I didn't even think of that! Well, let's see. I have a flatscreen 17" LCD. It belongs to Wifey's brother, but I'm borrowing it indefinitely (until he decides he wants it back). If he ever takes it back from me, I have my 19" CRT in the closet. I could use that if needed. But the prospect of a widescreen 20 inch is pretty nice. HM! ESKIMO MAYBE GENIOUS

September 7, 200718 yr yeah a 256 would be much better than that 128 card. I think that that system could handle BF2142 just fine with the 128, but you would have to cut the settings low on upcoming games (and where is the fun in building a computer if you can't jack up the settings  )
