September 12, 200718 yr I have one computer that i use for finanaces and it is encrypted up to 128bit and using a WPA key that cycle changes every hour. WPA as in your wireless network key? That wouldn't affect the security of your online transactions. Also, as I understand things, the server certificate dictates the encryption parameters used for SSL. So you wouldn't have control over what gets used unless you explicitly told your browser not to accept certificates under a certain security level.
September 12, 200718 yr Wow, That stinks. When I use my card online, I use it only on secure sites only. I learned my lesson when someone used my card and made a purchase with it. However, all I did was contact my bank, and dispute it. I never had to pay it back either. Contact your bank or credit card company. Get the item purchased, and where exactly the location was. Call that place and find out what was ordered or purchased. Dispute it again with your bank / credit card company. Report the card number as being stolen. Close the account out. Hope that helps.

September 13, 200718 yr There is a lot of attention given to online "identify" theft and fraud, but much less attention is given to using your card in meatspace. I have worked in the service industry most of my life and I can say that it is just as likely to occur in physical spaces as it is online. That said, we should all be careful in any situation. I constantly monitor my account to help prevent fraud of this kind.
September 16, 200718 yr A while back TJ MAXX/Marshalls/TJX was hit with a massive breach of security with an employee stealing information. They said no one was really affected, yet I know of 2 instances where people who only used the credit cards at these stores were later getting debits overseas. unfortunately it is hard to trace - but what you should find out is is if the merchants are also using the CV number (3 digit number) on the back of the card - if so it is more then likely someone who handled the card itself. Waiters and Waitress's have been known to use a card reader at restraunts to catch and copy information and then they add the CV code to the swipe for added money.
September 16, 200718 yr I used to do a ton of shopping online too (computer stuff and any items too) and never had any problems because all the time payed with a security lines... But now, you can refuse the payements with your "stolen" credit card numbers and refund your money back: Put a complaint to the police office and with the repport, send a copy to your bank credit card company or go to the bank office with the repport of the police, If they are correct, your credit card company will send you a new one credit card by blocking the old and they will refind back your stolen money after investigate that you never buyed anythings in this country or never gone in Italy... Don't let you stolen also by your credit card bank company: they have also insurance with these affairs when they happen... Egidio.
