September 23, 200718 yr I picked this demo up today just out of idle curiosity. I ended up playing it for several hours. I kinda can't believe I got hooked on it as Quake Arena disappointed me terribly. My first thoughts upon entering the game is it was a Quake version of Battlefield with large, expansive outdoor battlefields and access to several types of vehicles. But those simularities quickly vanished as I delved into the game deeper. I was frustrated with it at first, seeming to die so easily and whatnot. But after awhile, I began to learn the various classes and abilities and started to get into it. Then when I realised that some classes could deploy anything from a infantry turret to several types of artillery batteries and then call on them using a laser pointer... I got really hooked. In addition, the game features an experiance system that allows your character to grow as he fights on the map. This allows for unlocks, depending on what your character is "practicing" If he's an engineer using his repair ability, he can eventually unlock abilities that allow him to repair more effectivly. If you are sprinting a lot, you will eventually learn to run faster. If you use your side arm enough, you start gaining bonus abilities in light weapons... well, you get the idea. At any rate, it appears I'm up to 3 packages I'll be picking up this fall... The Orange Box, Bioshock, and now Quake : Enemy Territory.
September 23, 200718 yr lol, no kidding. i just preordered the orange box. i'm going to get QW and COD4 too. that's too many to play at once so after i try them out i'll probably just limit it to 2 games. Crysis sounds nice too but i may have to pass on that.
September 23, 200718 yr I'm liking ET:QW. So much fun, plus kind of brings me back to my roots in Quake II.
September 24, 200718 yr tried the day the demo come out. I hated it... I can sum it up like this: To futuristic waste of hard drive space waste of bandwidth to download thank GOD it was FREE. UNINSTALL
September 24, 200718 yr well it sounds fun wouldnt hurt to try it. If you like the more futuristic stuff you may like it. I see where in that respect it was ok. If Bf2142 was as far toward the futuristic side as you like to go then I suggest you dot bother.
September 25, 200718 yr If you like the more futuristic stuff you may like it. I see where in that respect it was ok. If Bf2142 was as far toward the futuristic side as you like to go then I suggest you dot bother. The way I see it, the GDF's weapons are not as futuristic as PAC's and EU's in BF2142. It's an alien invasion. What do you want the aliens to use for weapons, sticks and stones?
September 25, 200718 yr i enjoyed the quake series. i enjoyed playing wolfenstein enemy territory and its objective based maps. i culdnt care less if its futuristic or swords and slings. u just shoot the other guy with whatever you have! the high speed of quakewars might be a turnoff to some but its fun to me...keeps me sharp
September 25, 200718 yr I love BF when it gets crazy and I'm very good close quarters, I'll probably do very well on QW once I got used to the game. I played the original Quake quite a bit and I miss the smaller maps, makes for some intense game play. If you buy it and like it I'll grab it. I'll tell you how to keep sharp....STUDY! Maybe you should make audio notes and play it while gaming (hides from gadfry).
September 28, 200718 yr Played it, learned the classes, it's fun, but maybe because of the BF series I'm jaded about it. It's exactly BF series, but Quake. Just feels like a BF mod tbh. How much is Q:ET? 50 US? Eeeeeeeh, I don't really know if I'll buy it. They should of given the demo more then one map. At most 3. Just my two cents though, but other than that. It's fun, love calling in strikes and/or being heavy weapons and one shotting most vehicles. Ps. Vehicles = worthless in Quake: ET O.o
September 28, 200718 yr Ps. Vehicles = worthless in Quake: ET O.o Except the Hog. It is the ultimate jihad jeep.
September 29, 200718 yr Author Shadowwolf said what I was going to say about the GDF weapons not being very futuristic I haven't touched the demo much since I got my hands on TF2, but I will still get it in the coming months. I have a feeling I'm going to like it a lot better than the BF series. You see, while I did enjoy BF... the movement of the characters I could never really get into 100 percent. I think it had something to do with the network code... I'm not entirely sure but the timing of the characters always seemed a bit "off" to me. Whereas the Quake engine always felt crisp and "Right" to me even online. So, in QW I get character response I want with the Battlefield gameplay.
September 29, 200718 yr DeadRoach, I totally agree with you about the movements. It feels dead on and not choppy like on BF, especially in 2142 inside of a Titan. One thing I totally dislike in Q:ET is the stupid red/green arrows that gives away person positions. There is no point to take cover in that game, sure all gung-ho is fine once in a while, but eh. Give it a rest. I'd like the game better if I had a team to play with over Vent. I like being Support or Heavy. Heavy to take down vehicles w/o needing to call in for strikes and to take out obstacles and objects. I'm tied between the two hehe.
September 29, 200718 yr what i dont get is how ppl call it similar to battlefield... we're not fighting for flags. we're trying to get our covert ops guys into ur freaking shield generator so they can hack it and we can blow up your contaminator! (before u turn our population into mindless zombies) u may say " o sure...original...like how i get my recon class to rdx ur control consoles so we can blow up ur titan reactor". fair enuff...but seriously tho...how intense can a battle be on a titan server? walker and tank battles? might be fun for the guys in the armor. onboard titan combat? u gotta admit, frag spamming in the little hallways do start to get a LITTLE lame... that's what i love about the enemy territory series. everyone wants to be at the same place! no sneaking around, no capping flags from behind ppls backs. Always a fight at the right places. Unless ur back at home base sniping at where noone goes to or having bleeding tea parties till the tank comes out then yeah ur pretty useless. but hey! we always have one of those in every team based shooter right?
