2142 problem........

Alright, I don't know what hell is going on with this game. It has been going on for about a week now.

First, it started with locking up while loading up the map to the server. Was quickly fixed by reinstalling. Then I got the bright idea of updating my vid drivers.... After that the game would only run for awhile then do a hard lockup. I mean I actually had to hit the restart button on the case. Nothing worked....... When this happened the game would freeze and keep on playing a looped sound....So I rollbacked the drivers and still nothing. Not only that, but things seem to be laggy for me in game. I don't think anything is overheating. As I can put my hand and not feel any real heat inside my case.

Other then that my ping has been jumping spratically. Our server never shows up orange or red for me, but lately it has been doing that every now and then. I usually avg. a 45-50 ping. Now it is like 80-90. I tried playing the game on single player and samething still happened. I suppose I could reinstall again, but I figured I would see if anyone else has had this problem.

Yes, this is why I have been leaving vent or the game everynow and then. Been trying different things and I always end up being laggy and then usually a hard-lockup......

I have had this happen to me before. But normally a reboot solved it. I would try to reinstall the game again and see if that helps the problem. Other than that, I have no other suggestions. :klinked: Maybe also go back to the vid drivers you were using that worked. Then reinstall game.

Yeah, this happened to me awhile back. I did a reinstall and was fine.

That's why i hesitate to update video drivers if everything is working - why do anything if everything is running smoothly.

good luck!

As for the lag, I don't know if it's on my end but for that last week or so I have had 125 or so ping when normally 80 ish. I haven't tested anything.

I had the same problems. Updated my drivers, which made my video worse. I tried all kinds of things. In the end I reloaded the game and went back to my old drivers. Everything has been running great since.

I see others have posted the same. Might be your best bet, hope it helps.

BTW you a 46 guy?

Mr. Phrogg,

in my opinion those are two different symptoms. One is the hard lock and i experience it twice in the past two days (and my rig is fairly good), for which i would suggest a complete hard drive maintenance defrag, and registry clean, i am working on it currently. Second one is the ping and i have a pretty good idea about this given my trouble with it, have those commands running through the "start" & "run" :

1. "tracert 70.87.67.146"

2. "ping 70.87.67.146"

,those will give you an idea of what is the usual route and travel of your ip to the server, sometimes the provider i guess changes those routes, the more of them the higher the ping, maybe something have changed lately in which case you might want to talk to your internet provider. Hope this helps.

...... When this happened the game would freeze and keep on playing a looped sound....

This used to happen to me all the time. I bet its your sound card. Turn off x-fi and EAX and see if that helps. If the looping sound crash goes away then you found the source of the problem. I had an audigy 2ZS and could not play reliably with EAX on. I bought an X-FI extrememusic and everything works great now, but when I installed it I didn't use the drivers on the cd, I downloaded the latest from soundblaster.

Its strange because I used to be able to play 2142 with EAX on my audigy then one day out of the blue I get these crashes. Then about four months later the soundcard just died and would not work. Maybe your card is on the way out.

For some odd reason 2142 doesn't like it when u update ur vid drivers. I had the same problem and i usually had to reinstall with the new drivers. After that everything was good
I'll take care of that problem. :klinked:

Sure ya will don't worry about him Norcalxx Phrogg is really the only one u should be worried about:D:p
how about some specs, OS ,graphics card, ram ect.......... :p

pssst look at the pull down menu that reads phroggs pc ;)
I have had that issue too Phrogg, it would go to a half load of ta map and then freeze to where you couldnt just end the program. I had to reinstall the entire game a 2x over the last 6 months. I dont know if its an EA issue or not but I did change all my settings on aidio to off/low and adjusted graphics too.
I had the same problem for a good while. First it was my sound card that went bad, then my video card went bad not to long after that. Now after my second replacement video card I found out it was my motherboard. My previous motherboard had ATI components, which sometimes doesn't work well with video cards that are NVIDIA based. So I upgraded to a NVIDIA based motherboard and WAAALLAAAA. I have never seen 2142 or BF2 run so smoothly. Im not an expert by no means but I was having alot of the same things going on with mine. If your mb is on its way out then it would cause alot of the problems your having including high ping rates, locking up, continous sound sticking. It's just a suggestion from someone who has been there for the last 3 months. Good luck with that needle in a hay stack.
my vid drivers are out of date, if i update them nothing works (steam, any of the battlefields). hell its hard enough to get around windows with them installed ;) . i'm sticking with my old ones and i dont seem to get many issues.

I don't know what to do anymore....I tried deleting that file and still nothing.... :D

man that sucks i've had some the exact things happen to me.not really sure how i fixed them at the time.I know reinstalling the game can help so can reinstalling the ea downloader.

also rolling back your drivers or see if there's even a newer one you can try.

i don't update my drivers to much these days cuz it seems to always make more problems for me.

SAME THING happens to me every now and then, starting from the lock up on the game and ending on the ping, but the ping issue i believe it's because of where I am currently located at. Sometimes (i think it's because of the ping) when i zoom in and zoom out, my player automatically zooms in AGAIN like twice, and after the second time or third i'm already dead :D ... I have no idea what to do. I've tried everything, tried different video settings on the GPU, defrag, i mean it couldn't be much cause' i just did a reformat con my laptop. Nobody else uses my laptop but me AND i also turn off most of the programs that are being processed. I need as much help as you do Phrogg. I'll let you know if somebody helps me out, i mean it's sunday and everyone, almost everyone has time to help out today. I will keep you posted on this issue. Good luck, if you figure it out, let me know please. Thnx
Nothing like that has ever happened to me, but i I were you I would reinstall 2142 and if its still not working try reinstalling your drivers

Here is a file that some one on the EA forum created to automatically delete the "radial.cdb" file which i think causes the 66% freeze, as far as the sound looping freeze updating sound drivers fixed that for me, also i was locking up and rebooting regular and discovered that my memory was overheating a quick fan on the mem fixed that. Anyway, here is the file.
