BC2 UK Forum: Seven Ways Battlefield 3 is Improving
At the start of the week I outlined some of the key Battlefield 3 issues we are tracking here at DICE. This update will give you a clear view on the improvements we have made since then. Keep gaming, and keep sending us your feedback! 1) QUICK MATCH FUNCTIONALITY Status: Improved! Try it out and leave your feedback on the Battlelog forums Since we rolled out the server patch yesterday, we have seen a big increase in quick match functionality on consoles. You should now be able to join a quick match the majority of times without any issues. However, please make sure to check that you are matched against servers in your own region by following this guide for the console server browser. If not, this could potentially have a negative impact on lag and rubber banding. We will keep working on improving the quick match stability and reliability further. 2) JOINING SQUADS AND STAYING THERE Status: Fix pending in the very near future Some people have experienced difficulties joining and staying in squads on console. We have identified the cause of this problem and will hopefully have a fix ready to roll out very soon. You should then be able to stay together in your squad throughout the game. Please follow this guide for how to create and join squads prior to starting a match, which is the quickest and most reliable way to make sure you play with the right people in the right game. We will return tomorrow with an update on when this fix is live. 3) HARDCORE SERVER AVAILABILITY Status: Improved! Try it out and leave your feedback on the Battlelog forums We know you love your hardcore mode. We have identified and eliminated the problem that made our hardcore servers disappear after being live for a set period of time. You should now find plenty of Hardcore servers to join. 4) LAG AND RUBBER BANDING Status: Fix just rolled out. We are positive this will improve the situation. Help us verify by playing Caspian Border and Tehran Highway on Conquest! Some users are experiencing lag and rubber banding, mostly tied to Conquest mode on Tehran Highway and Caspian Border. This was due to a bug in the network code that has been identified and eliminated in todayÂ’s console server patch, resulting in a big improvement in these cases. For PC, this issue was improved in an earlier server patch. However, please make sure to check that you are matched against servers in your own region by following this guide for the console server browser. If not, this could potentially have a negative impact on lag and rubber banding. We will keep working on improving the quick match stability and reliability further. 5) DEFAULT REGION SETTING IN SERVER BROWSER Status: Fix pending in the very near future Some players, mostly in the US, may have had their default region setting in the server browser set to Europe, which would lead to unnecessary lag and rubber banding. This would incorrectly also affect your quick match attempts. This will be fixed shortly. You can still manually use the server browser and set the desired server region to any region you want. You might also want to follow this guide for how to best take advantage of the features in the console server browser. That way, you have total control over what game mode and map to join, and on what server. 6) GAME STABILITY Status: Greatly improved! Leave your feedback on the Battlelog forums In todayÂ’s server patch, we also made numerous fixes to the overall game stability, including the elimination of two of the most frequent game crashed we have seen reports on. You should see an increase in game stability from now on. 7) ORIGIN INSTALLATION AND AUTHENTICATION ISSUES Status: Fix pending in the very near future Since the launch of Battlefield 3, Origin have implemented a host of improvements and will continue to do so as long as gamers are playing Battlefield 3. The next Origin update is scheduled for early November and includes a number of critical updates that will fix most of the problems that people have experienced. For the latest updates, answers, and support from the Origin Team, please visit the Origin Help Center. The Origin Team will continue to appreciate any and all feedback and will address it as quickly as possible. Please go to the Origin Help Center for support directly relating to Origin. Once again, thanks for playing, and thanks for sharing your feedback with us at DICE and EA. Let us know how you are enjoying the game now that the mentioned in this blog post have rolled out or will roll out in the near future. We are passionate about supporting all our games for a very long time, including Battlefield 3. This is just the start. If you have any feedback at all, please visit Battlelog and let us know what you think in the forums available there. For support, head to our Battlefield 3 Help Center, where you can see the answer to the most frequent questions and live chat with our game advisors. BC2 UK Forum: Your Quick Guide to the Battlefield 3 Server Browser
We know that some of you are having high-pings when connecting to Battlefield 3 servers and we want to help optimize your server settings! Having a server browser is not commonplace in console games, but it is a very useful feature on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to get you in the right game with the right people. For example, if you're a US-based player located in California, then you'll want to make sure you're connecting to "West US" servers so that you get the best ping. The following server browser tutorial will help you connect with the best settings. Try it out and then join us in Battlelog if this improved your experience. 1) Start the server browser http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/Serverbrowser1.jpg Okay, first things first. Go to the MULTIPLAYER option, then move one step down from QUICK MATCH to highlight the SERVER BROWSER option and hit A or X (on Xbox 360/PS3, respectively). 2) Browse available servers http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/ServerbrowserBrowser.jpg When you enter the server browser, you will se a list of all available servers based on your filter settings. If this is your first time in the server browser, most of your filter settings will be set to ANY, so you will se a wide range iof game modes and maps available to join at your leisure. The two most right hand side columns show whether the server is ranked or not (basically if the server is running default settings, allowing your match be taken up into the official Battlefield 3 stats for your soldier), and what type of server response time you can expect (the more full the ping meter, the better response time and better online performance). 3) Personalize your filter settings http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/ServerbrowserFilter.jpg The filter settings is where the server browser really shows its flexibility. Hit R3 (press the right analogue stick down) to enter the filter settings screen. Here, you can set your preferences by hitting A/X in the following criteria (from left to right): Number of players on the server. Select a low number if you want to find servers with lots of available slots for you and your squad. Mode. This is where you select Conquest, Rush, Team Death Match, Squad Death Match, Squad Rush, or a combination of them. Map. Where do you want to play today? Preset. Hit NORMAL to only see servers running the game in the normal, default mode. This is a good place to start. If you want an added challenge, check HARDCORE to see hardcore servers. On hardcore mode, bullets do more damage, and you have less HUD elements to guide you on the battlefield. ItÂ’s a cool twist to the battlefield experience, and you can read more about it here. Finally, check INFANTRY to see servers where all combat vehicles have been removed. This is a good way to start playing Battlefield without the added layer of vehicle combat. Ranked. Pick YES or NO or leave unmarked to show both. A ranked server has not changed any of the official rules. A match on a ranked server will be officially registered with your Battlefield 3 soldier stats. Region. If you donÂ’t set a region here, the server browser will show you servers in all regions of the world. IMPORTANT: To minimize the risk of unnecessary lag and/or rubberbanding when playing online, please make sure to manually select the region closest to you. If you are based in the US, please make sure you have not set the region on this screen to Europe, Asia, or Australia. Once you are happy with your choicelalalala B/SQUARE to return to the main server browser screen, where your new filter selections will have taken effect immediately. 4) Go into detail on interesting servers http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/ServerbrowserDetails.jpg If you find a server that whets your appetite, just hit A/X to enter the SERVER INFORMATION screen. Here, you will see even more details about the current game on that server. Navigating this screen with the D-PAD or left stick lets you view information such as what maps will be in this serverÂ’s rotation, what players are on right now, what game settings the server is running, and more. From here, you can join the game by pressing A/X or back out to the main server browser screen by hitting B/SQUARE. If you find a server you like, you can FAVORITE it by pressing X/SQUARE. That way, it will always be quickly available for you to rejoin at a later date via the FAVORITES tab. You will typically find that a server that gives you good ping and lagless play will keep doing so when you come back. Also, some players tend to stick to speciifc servers, so chances are you'll also start to recognize your fellow soldiers if you become a regular. 5) Go go go! Once you are happy with all of your settings and the chosen server, just hit Y/TRIANGLE from the server browser main screen to join and start playing. TIP: DonÂ’t forget to squad up! The easiest way to bring your friends in your squad to the game is to create a squad before you join a server. To do so, just follow this guide we created earlier. Happy gaming! Squad Functionality: Improved!Today, we rolled out a number of fixes that will improve squad functionality. Specifically these fixes will improve squad stability and lessen the risk of your squad getting split up when joining a game. Keep gaming, and keep sending us your feedback so we can hunt down any outstanding squad issues. Default Server Region Setting: Improved! In the manual server browser on Xbox 360, there was an issue where US players would sometimes be defaulted to European servers. We rolled out a fix for this today. You can still set your preferred region(s) in the server browser, and it's a great tool to find your favorite servers, game modes, and gamer friends. Check out this handy guide for everything you can do with the console server browser, and let us know what you think! Game Stability: Improved!Today, we rolled out fixes for several game crash issues. Let us know if this fixes any issues you have had. Go Back to Karkand in December! http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/B2K_5F00_02_2D00_550.jpg Our dedicated Back to Karkand team continues to make awesome progress on this expansion pack, which will be available in December at no extra charge to everyone who pre-ordered Battlefield 3. If you didn’t pre-order, you’ll be able to purchase it for $14.99, 1200 Microsoft Points, or the equivalent in your local currency, at the same date. It contains four of the most loved Battlefield 2 maps boldly re-imagined in Frostbite 2: Gulf of Oman, Sharqi Peninsula, Strike at Karkand, and Wake Island. You'll also get to patrol the battlefield with your favorite Battlefield 2 vehicles and weapons, and the expansion pack also features the return of the exciting variation on Conquest called Conquest Assault (more on that later). And for those of you who love your persistence, you'll get new "Assignments" to complete for unlocks (we'll talk more about Assignments soon)! Congratulations to Battlefield fan Simon W for naming and claiming our new control point! http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/Nameit2.jpg We asked and you delivered! We asked our creative community to name one of the redesigned control points on the upcoming Back to Karkand map Gulf of Oman. We had over 18,000 submissions and tons of fantastic suggestions. However, there can only be one winner and that winner is Simon W. His control point name suggestion was Veteran's Retreat, which will be featured in the Gulf of Oman map in the Back to Karkand expansion pack in December. Back to Karkand Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus calls it "a great suggestion that gives our veteran Battlefield fans a well-deserved nod while fitting perfectly with the map theme." Congratulations, Simon, and thanks for helping us out with the name! BC2 UK Forum: To all of our Battlefield 3 fans: We are listening, keep sending valuable feedback
Hi all! This is Karl Magnus Troedsson with an update on the Battlefield 3 launch. It has been an amazing first week for all of us at DICE. ItÂ’s incredibly exciting to ship Battlefield 3 globally, and to hear the feedback from our fans. http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/BF3_5F00_Valley04.jpg This has been our largest launch to date! Thank you all for turning out in record numbers at midnight launches across the globe. ItÂ’s great to know youÂ’re all as excited to play Battlefield 3 as we are. Even so, the overwhelming response has been as humbling as it is appreciated. Battlefield 3 is the fastest selling game in EAÂ’s history, but is not without its ups and downs. You make the game come alive Everyone at DICE has put their heart and soul into Battlefield 3. We take an incredible amount of pride in what weÂ’ve built. Many of us were Battlefield players even before we became developers on Battlefield 3. So we take great pride in the positive feedback and revel in the Battlefield moments captured by the community. Here is just one of the thousands of awesome fan videos that are popping up everywhere, showing us what Battlefield is all about: Key issues and how we are fixing them Despite the fact that millions of people are online playing Battlefield 3, some of you are experiencing issues. The DICE team, as well as the many EA groups that support this historic launch, have all been working around the clock. WeÂ’ve deployed a number of server-side updates in our first week that have solved a number of the primary connectivity challenges, and have accelerated our rollout of the number of Hardcore servers. Below is an update on five key issues for us and how we are addressing them. * Quick Match functionality While Quick Match has been working well for PC and PS3 players, the Xbox 360 Quick Match function has not been working properly for all players. This is due to a variety of issues, and weÂ’ve rolled out a number of fixes. The latest one is deploying as I write this, and we are hoping this will fix the issue shortly. Please continue to give us your valuable feedback. See links below for sending us your feedback. * Joining squads and staying there At the heart of Battlefield 3 is the ability to play in squads. So that fact that this feature is not yet working flawlessly has top priority. Without going into too much detail, we can say this is related to the Quick Match functionality. Until we have it working properly, please check out the tutorial on how to join as a squad using the Server Browser. Please continue to provide feedback so that we can continually improve this feature. * Origin authentication We know some of you have encountered authentication and other related issues to our new Origin platform. While the authentication issues have been fixed, we have increased our customer support services exponentially to ensure a smooth experience going forward. See below for the best way to contact customer service. * Dealing with cheaters If youÂ’re like me, you take a lot of pride in your stats. So when people abuse the system it can ruin the fun. Although cheating is a fact of life for many great games, we take great efforts to ensure Battlefield remains cheat free. We have updated Punkbuster and will continue to roll out anti cheat fixes. Again, please leave feedback via the link below. * Server maintenance A big part of what makes Battlefield great is our dedicated server structure. WeÂ’ve spent a lot of time and effort developing this service. Despite having some of the best engineers in game development, unpredictable problems occur. This requires server maintenance from time to time, some of it unplanned, and may result in you losing connection to a game you have in progress. These issues occur more frequently during the early stage of the game launch. But the outages have been limited and very short. The Battlefield 3 service is on track to be our best ever. Thank you for your patience and feedback. We have dedicated support staff for you We wouldnÂ’t be here without the support and passion provided by all of our fans. Thank you again for turning up in record numbers, for being honest with your feedback, and supportive of our efforts to deliver a multiplayer experience that we can enjoy together for years to come. WeÂ’re very excited to show you whatÂ’s around the corner and truly appreciate your being on this journey with us. Go here to get in touch with our support staff. Or, if you are already logged into Battlelog, click the support tab on the left hand side of the screen. You can also reach support by clicking the question mark in the top right corner of the Origin application itself. See you on the battlefield!
