Sixteen yellows to be exact, but either way, that was a horrible game. The game was rough and physical, but to have that many cards thrown out was ridiculous. And then here in the Switzerland vs Ukraine match, there was a total of one yellow card. FIFA can't seem to find a happy medium with the cards. On topic of the Italy vs Australia match... What an obvious dive! The slide tackle comes early, the Italian player looks to go around, but then decides to drag his left foot down to make contact with the Australian player on the ground, thus justifying his dive to the ground. Maneuvers like that deserve immediate red cards, as it falsifies and drags the game way down. This entire World Cup in Germany I've seen countless dives, some without contact at all. Although the games have rejuvenated my interest in soccer (football for the Europeans), I just can't stand to watch teams striving to act for fouls. Toss the stretcher and play right - no Oscars are being handed out.

I rather think it is a good rule. The allure of hockey is its fast paced, fluid gameplay. If they were allowed to hit the puck out of play over the glass in a clearing maneuver to relieve pressure from an attack, it would be lame, for a better lack of words. The fluidity of the game would be lost. Therefore, glancing it off the glass in a clearing maneuver is a calculated, very legal, risk. And if you accidentally hit it over while trying for the glass, then the risk played against you.

Although many of us are guaranteed the joys of a three day weekend full of partying and general leisure activities, we should not forget why we have Monday off. Memorial Day is a day of rememberance for those who sacrificed a lot, and in many cases all, in past wars and service so that we can live freely without fear. I'm grateful for these great deeds, as I'm sure all of you are. I'm not saying we should all go out to the cemeteries and place flags (although you are certainly more than welcome), I'm just saying we should all take a bit of time out of our day Monday and think about the true meaning of this holiday.

Partied hard Friday night, played some disc golf Saturday, partied a little more Saturday night, and then did laundry, slept, and did some homework on Sunday. Sunday also had a sort of action hero day on spike/fx, which was sweet.
