Hi everyone! It's been over a year and half since I just kind of disappeared, and I really don't have an excuse for not having posted a reason at the time I left or at least at some belated point in the future. For that I apologize, and I offer a reason now: I started my graduate degree and was also notified of my unit's impending deployment to Afghanistan in early 2014. Well, I completed my Masters and my deployment was canceled due to budget and drawdown. Things have generally calmed down across the board; and while I hope to fill my schedule with other pursuits I have had to put on hold, I DEFINITELY have room for some gaming in the evenings and weekends again. So, if you all will have me back, I would love to join you guys for the midnight launch of BF4 tonight.

The no dedicated servers thing has been quite obnoxious....

Oh crap, I forgot about freaking steam, Im going to try an experiment, maybe theres a workaround. I really wish I could accuse them of cheating but I was getting a pretty legit butt whupping.

Well, I made a mistake shelling out the bucks for this game. Now that Ive reach lvl 20 MP, the "servers" are filled with players of superhuman skill who probably wasted half their life playing COD4. So, with only a few spec ops missions left, the only other part of this game with any redeeming value is pretty much off limits unless I want to break my keyboard out of frustration. Im still somewhat on the fence, but is there anyone who hasn't purchased COD2 and would want a copy discounted to $45 from $64 after tax?

I put this here cause I know there are a lot of old schoolers who still check out the forums from time to time. Anyhoo, in a fit of nostalgia I reinstalled FA 3.0, and to my surprise there are still working servers playing it! Anyone up for some old school FA?

Oh Gods, I remember a flame war almost started about this on Vent. I suggested that the Abrams, Leopard 2A6, and Challenger 2 were tied for 1st and some people reacted like the Abrams killed their family, it was unreal how passionate people thought it sucked despite the empirical evidence. I decided not to say anything beyond my original statement in fear for my life. I couldn't watch the vid owing to bandwidth constraints, but wow, the T-34? I mean I can see how historically important it is, perhaps more so than any other tank, but in terms of technical capabilities... It was great for its time, especially given the Soviet's dire situation, but technically speaking I think there are much better choices. Please tell me the Sherman didnt rate, that tank was a death trap.

Id rather they focus on just making an all around "better" OS. Gaming quality is directly proportional to improvements in a whole bunch of other areas like stability, efficiency, file system, networking, ease of use, etc. I could care less about all the "extras" related to only gaming so long as the core competencies are strengthened.

MSDNAA gave me Win 7 pro recently, before that I had Ultimate RC. I use the x64 and x32 on my 5 year old laptop (works GREAT amazingly, even with aero). I whole heartedly recommend the upgrade, its light years ahead of XP and what Vista should have been. That being said, networking is better but still iffy, and file browsing, while improved, is still clunky. Funnily enough, Windows 7 appears to be a lot more backwards compatible than Vista. Also, based off the responses so far and from other experiences, it seems Windows 7 is free ; ) which is a big plus, it really undercuts the linux crowd lol.
