when 2142 came out i had it pre ordered then on the day it came out,i got a notice telling me i'd have to wait a full month to recieve it.so getting it thru steam is the way to go.no screwing around.

man that sucks i've had some the exact things happen to me.not really sure how i fixed them at the time.I know reinstalling the game can help so can reinstalling the ea downloader. also rolling back your drivers or see if there's even a newer one you can try. i don't update my drivers to much these days cuz it seems to always make more problems for me.
