Well, after 18+ yrs, I finally had to say good bye to my cat. :D His back end muscles finally gave out and he couldn't get around anymore. So, Saturday I took him to the vet and had him put down. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do. It seems like just yesterday, that I was picking him up off the road by my car tire. I named him Catnap, because he ran out in front of my car, and I thought I had hit him. He couldn't have been more than 5 weeks old. I scooped him up, and took him home. I figured anybody who had left a young kitten out didn't deserve him. Although his real name was Catnap, I called him Fatman. He weighed 20 lbs. He was a big part in my every day routine. He will be sadly missed. :D
I'm sorry to hear about your loss Wolfy, I know it was a hard decision but it was the right thing to do.
i totally understand my whole life i've had cats around my mother always had at least 2 cats at all times. And after i moved out it wasn't long before i started getting my own cats i have 2 right now and i'd be very sad if anything happened to them. I'm sorry wolfey:(
Sorry to hear of your loss . I have a cat that showed up in my garage after a fight with a alagator and never left it is now a part of the family . but you have 18 years of great memorys thats something
sorry to hear that wolfey. but think that 18+ years is a pretty long time and he's probably gone to a better place with lots of catnip or whatever else he likes. one of my cats only lived 6 years - he had FIV (kind of like HIV for cats) from birth and got these huge pleural effusions (fluid around the lungs). my ex had him and unfortunately he looked like he ended up suffocating from the fluid. putting your cat to sleep was the right decision - better than have him immobile and depressed.
When I was 19 my girl wanted a kitten for xmas. Her parents wouldn't let her keep him, we planned on moving in together in a month or two so I decided to take him until then. A couple months later I find out she cheated on me, I don't put up with that so I left her. I guess I was lucky she was an animal lover like me and knew what it's like to lose a pet, she said there was no way she would do that to me and insisted I keep him, I guess she did have a soft side.

Wolfey,

I've been down that path with two dogs. It's never an easy decision, even when we know it's the right. Someone shared this story with me when I lost my first, and I've always passed it along to someone else in time of need:

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks soo much all of you for the kind words. Shooter.... that is the most beautiful story I have ever heard. Thank you. I had him cremated, and he is coming home on Thurs. or Friday.
That is really old for a cat. He lived a very long life. Just remember the good times u had together. He will always be with you. Sorry that he is gone. What happens when i usually lose a pet i go get another one right away.

Sorry for your loss wolfey, it's amazing that you had that cat for longer than I've been alive

But yeah I know what it's like, when I was 8 my bird was eaten by a raccoon, that was terrible, and then like two years ago I had to take one of my family's older birds (a cockatoo) to be put down (it was old, sick, and had a problem where it basically ate a hole in its chest), it's the most terrible thing in the world to watch a pet you love die over the course of several minutes.

Sorry to hear about your family member kitty, you just need to replace her with another her...........A MUSTANG. :D :D Drive on Trooper.
I have been there Wolfey, and in now way is that a fun thing to do. I am so sorry for your loss. Keep your head up and remember the good times.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but it was the right thing to do.

We do the same 2 years ago with our cat too after 14 years old = sad!

Egidio.
