April 22, 200818 yr Do any of ya know what is the best way to get brake dust off of aluminum rims. Of gotten some of it but the rest is on there pretty good. I know it doesn't help living in NY and all with the salt during the winter. After i get them polished to the way i want them is there a way to protect them from the brake dust and salt during the winter? They have a machine finish no chrome just polished. Any help would be appreciated:D
April 23, 200817 yr Cola, and there's some other stuff, a sealant that will keep them shiny for up to 6 months. Check the Spike TV site for the show Trucks, that's where I saw the product.

April 24, 200817 yr Any water based engine degreasant is good.. get yourself a soft bottle brush too, for getting in and around.. If you can take the wheel off and do the backside of it too, Goto a motorbike or mountain bike shop and get some "muc off". Sure people do some sort of Foaming wheel cleaner.. you can also get specific wheel waxes, Might be a good idea also to give the wheel manufacturers a shout and see what they recomend for that finish, http://www.muc-off.com/bicyclemuc-off.html << link btw I
April 24, 200817 yr If you're afraid of any kind of materal that might damage it. Dont it in a hidden spot. My wheels are a beast to clean as well. Especially for a super clean. They have like 20 spokes on them -.- But yeah, best bet. Take off the wheel and get to work. Gives you inside and out and easier access all around the tire/rim. Just make sure you don't lose the lugnuts and be sure to put them on tightly again. As well, you can get ceramic (sp?) brake pads. A LOT less dirt and they last a whole lot longer. Only complaint I've heard about them is from my friend and she says that she noticed only a minute increase in braking distance.

I don't want to take them off because my rims have to be at a certain torque and i don't have a torque wrench i picked up some of that black magic stuff it says it releases brake dust on contact we'll see how that goes.
