So I was strolling through a local music store last week during my typical 2 hour lunch and decided that I wanted to buy a few CDs. When I came to my senses I realized that I only wanted about 2 songs on each CD. Then the light came on and decided to put the CDs back and just download the few songs when I get home for about $6 total (as opposed to $30+).

I began wondering, how much longer will traditional music stores be around? How will any such venture succeed in the days where we can not only buy a few tracks at a time, but also sample them to make sure they're what we want. When I got home, I went straight to Amazon and hit up the few songs that I wanted.

So here's the question....where does everyone here get their music from and why? I chose Amazon because you don't need a major interface like Itunes, the bit rate is excellent (256kbps), it has attached album art, and the tracks are unprotected MP3s (unlike Yahoo, etc.).

i know this site that directs u to the website that host it and all u do is have to right click and save, all free, or i torrent it, if u want the website i can im u on xfire, im not putting it on this website for it could violate something
Amazon.com is probably the best place online to buy music, it's all DRM free and the majority of it is better quality than iTunes.

in 10 years or so i'd say most artists will be releasing their works online - hopefully for free if they get smart - and allowing an optional 'donate' option (with a decent minimum amount, ofcourse).

to name a couple, radiohead and nine inch nails have already released their latest albums this way. it's better for them, and for us, because the people who worked on the music get 100% of the profit, and us - the listeners - can just use a paypal account or CC and send them money as a gift of appreciation for releasing their music (hopefully for free).

I use Ruckus, but I think they are college student only.

You are suppose to only listen to them on your computer, but of course there are measures that can be taken to get around this.

"Physical" music will always hold a special place in my heart. It used to mean something... sharing cassettes, CDs... With as easy as everything is to get anymore, and the ability to just delete the songs you don't like, music means very little.

I'll continue to buy albums from artists I support, be it vinyl, CD, or even cassette. After all, there's nothing like putting down some vinyl.

i get most my music from a store, but sometimes i buy it online,i tunes/realone player.

I know what you mean. Vinyl always had a distinct sound and feeling. Something CD's just never acquired.

That "distinct" sound is the natural distortion of the vinyl as it is used and gets old. It gives it a warm feeling to the music.

Interesting info. I'll leave one of my CD's in the sun this afternoon so it can get some distortion. I'm sure it will sound slightly different. :D
I'm a music geek, so I'm usually only interested in great full albums. Primarily I use emusic and buy vinyl. The great thing about vinyl now is many labels include coupons for mp3 downloads of the album. I just received 8 new vinyl in the mail the other day and I'm waiting on a reprint of Beach Boys - Pet Sounds on 180g vinyl! I'm so excited.
