So my truck's tranny crapped the bed

I get home from hearing a grinding noise coming from underneath the chasis. I go inside grab something to eat then decide i have to go to Lowes to get a couple of things. Then i only realize that my truck won't go faster than 30mph. How i got home from work is beyond me. It sounds like the governor could be stuck in gear. 1st gear works ok but 2nd is no good. So tomorrow morning i get to have it towed to the dealer i got it from. Thank God i have a 4yr warranty which covers transimission work. So anyone else got car trouble at the moment or am i the only unlucky one.
yeah that could prove to be expensive if you didnt have that extended warranty.. its a little bit of a gamble taking out the extra on the warranty, no telling if something will go wrong but they really pay for themselves when something like this happens.
Yeah, my trucks air conditioning has been out all summer, if anyones been in Memphis during the summer ya know what i mean. now my wifes battery in her car is going out. whats next, they come in threes dont they?
I'm at a crossroads with my '85 El Camino project right now. I need to rebuild the existing 305 V8, replace it with a purchased rebuilt 350, or scrap the entire project and get me something thatr's just reliable (the boring way out). I only need two simple things for the first 2 options: time and money. I'm going to check my tree in the back yard for the $$$.
Well, I hit a giant puddle in the road going about 35 MPH and sucked water into my engine. As we all know water isnt flamable nor compressable, so a push rod or something else bent and locked the engine up. So now im tasked with a 3700 dollar repair bill comming my way. Woot for me!!

Well its nice to know that i'm not the only one at the moment. Also Matador wouldn't mind seeing some pics.

I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and I saved a ton of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!!!!!!

Oh and as far as the 305 goes Matie....it's good for a boat anchor, 350 much better choice.

thats cause the morons that design engines in the US tend to put the air intakes underneath them.. Hydrolocked engines are not nice things.

My warranty ran out, then dust and PHX heat took its toll, i bearly made it home, in second gear for about 200 mi. ARRGGG, non the less the warranty, is the way to go if you put alot of miles on your rig a new GM tranny was 1,700 three year factory warranty on it, 187,000 miles on the chevy still running strong.... well this week any way:rolleyes:

Good grief... thanks all for your attempts to help or humor ...

I have learned that when the auto-tranny has trouble upshifting gears, it's as simple as tranny fluid is low. :D

Sure, after checking that level with the dipstick that requires motor idling and level, also smell the fluid off the stick ...

if it has burnt smell, it is burnt ... needs a shop to drop pan, flush tranny, change filter that's inside it which may be blocked, check belts or chains tensions, etc ...

realize that an automatic transmission works as hard if not harder then the engine ...

so it should be changed in my opinion, atleast yrly or two at most, depending on how hard you work it ...

highways, hills, work them hard ... city light gas pressure, no hard accelerating, is easier on them ...

baby your vehicle and it goes longer ...

if you work it hard with gas or hills/highway speeds ... check and change more often all vital fluids and filters.

this is why i prefer gauges to show me everything possible ...

such as oil pressure, temperature, voltmeter, ampmeter, etc ...

when you understand what they all mean, you can see a problem before it becomes a major problem ...

if your engine dies abruptly, it's electrical ... check wires and connections to coil ...

if it has been sputtering ... carb mixture, air filter, gas filter, timing, etc ...

try www.automotiveforums.com ...

learn your vehicle and always carry atleast 2 vice grips tools, duct tape, spare 4 lts premixed coolant, few lts oil, spare ring clamps for rad hoses that may wear out ... spare power steer fluid ... those hoses get high pressure too ... but usually blow at ends ... so you can cut with knife the blown end, with multibit screwdriver, remove clamp, cut hose, reclamp ...

if hose will reach without tension from engine movement ;-)

so try to have spare hoses for everything, and enough fluids ...

and you'll never be stranded ... :)

what I've learned from experience which we respect here. :) :)

if coolant leak, let engine cool off, refill with anything possible, DO NOT LOCK RAD CAP BACK ON ... this will allow pressure of heatup to blow out possible minor hose or clamp leak ...

just look at all hoses and determine where leak is ...

with full rad and intact big lower and upper rad hoses, leaking or not, you can maitain decent engine temp until coolant level drops too much ... hence the importance of gauges to see gradual changes ... idiot lights come on too late to prevent damage sometimes, not worth the risk in my opinion. :)

Yes, I've learned a lot over the years, about much. :)

I'll gladly share it with you when I have the time. :)

Otherwise, try here with "search" option for pc or game stuff ... try "google" or whatever on net for other concerns.

Sincerely,

Hogan. :)

Wow Hogan thanks for the great tips. As for the tranny it was serviced earlier this year for hard shifting/clunking into 2nd gear they just changed the fluid and added a detergent. Now that it won't go over 2nd gear they never fixed the problem.

Such a beautiful car Matador. Everything is ok with the truck turned out it was just misfiring only other thing was a U joint and some brakes.
