Gator Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Those of you who have Yahoo as your home page, you may have seen this new gaming device. It appears there is competition for PS3, XBox, and WII, with a new device that works like a DVR. here's the article here's the company's website: http://www.onlive.com/ /monthly_06_2011/post-3-13081022854_thumb.jpg Quote
Gator Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Also, I signed up for their Beta test to be held later this year. Quote
Luker3 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I think devices like this are still 5 years out. The bandwidth requirements for devices like this are going to need a good FIOS or DOCSIS 3.0 connections. For now, cloud computing will work, but cloud gaming needs some work. Quote
BornToDie1955 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 This system is very well but how much will be expensive the "on-demand" games??? There is a similar system on the satellites: some vendor have a "on-demand" movies and a large collection of films: each "on-demand" cost $6.00 (5 euros) per movie = very expensive by month, if you watch 1, 2 or 5 films by day, isn't it? Egidio. Quote
Premiumstar1 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Like Ding, said, looks interesting, but still doesnt fully convince me it might be a break through THE PREM. Quote
SneakyArab Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Lots of critics agree, this will only really work well for turn-based RTS games. Quote
StateCop Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I signed up for the beta also. I would like to see how it goes. I would think you need a higher end connection to get in but I could be wrong. Quote
StateCop Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I am not sure how many of you have been following this since Gator originally posted it but I have followed it now for over a year as I feel this may be the next revolution in gaming if it gets going. They have a founders club signup offering free monthly membership for the first year. I signed up last month and was accepted. They extended it until September...there is no obligation from my understanding but if you get in you will get the first year free and a very reduced rate on the second (like 4.95 a month I think). I started to make a new post about it due to the age of the original topic BUT since it will notify everyone who was interested enough to post on this subject originally I felt it to be the better option. Here is a link if you are interested http://www.onlive.com/signup UDATED: BTW for the hardcore PC gamer types that like the mouse keyboard like myself they are going to have an adapter for the console that hooks to the TV AND you are also going to be able to play on your PC via a program.
