DingChavez Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I went to install a new cooler for my computer today after if was all said and done my MB bit the dust and gave me just the FF code of death. Tech support was consulted and said board was dead. Outside of any warranty so just waiting for the new one. I should be back up and running within a week or two. So have fun gaming with out me :peace: I troubleshooted every possible thing. These 790i board have a problem with FF code of death mine gave me two years so i am happy. Quote
SneakyArab Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 RIP mobo. RIP. 2 years is an alright run though. Quote
DingChavez Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 I wouldn't have had to replace the backplate on the cooler i had if it didn't crack sending my CPU temps thru the roof. I just don't know what happened i did everything to protect against ESD. The only thing i had to differently was take a hair dryer to losen up the adhesive to remove the old backplate. I searched online and that is what was recommended for losening up the adhesive. I don't maybe that is what killed it. I'm only hoping that the MB didn't take anything else with it. Quote
RogueSteward Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 You mean the thermal conductive paste was too sticky and caused it to crack? That sucks man! I have always wondered about that because the last cooler I changed took quite a bit of effort getting the heat sink off. Quote
BornToDie1955 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 The thermal paste is not sticking, that it can that you did not put enough or too much of it so that overflows of the CPU onto the mobo... Do you have cleaned the old thermal paste with toilet papers before to put the new one cooler & thermal paste? If cooler is bad mounted or inverted on cpu, the motherboard never die! It toggle into the security mode for the cpu do NOT overheat! For to remove dust onto mobo, you do to use also a vacuum cleaner and a fine brush to brush dust into the vacuum cleaner... Do you have removed your mobo from your tower? If yes, you missed something to reconnect or you have wrong connected the large 24/28 pins white/black cable from the supply unit... Tip: If your PC functioned/ran before that you installed yourself the new cooler, it is not that which killed your MB! If your cooler badly installed or badly mounted, it is the CPU which dies and not the MB! Egidio. Quote
DingChavez Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 when u mount a the heavier cooler ie tuniq tower u have to put a backplate under the mb under the socket. the previous backplate cracked cause the reyards used plastic instead of metal Quote
DingChavez Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 pretty much this what happened. gaming one day severe amount of lag. i alt tab to see my cpu is 70c and rising. the lag was caused by the thermal throttling. i knew something was up cause the bios was having trouble booting. i would have to restart several times to get it to actually post. so i knew the mb/bios was messed up. so investigate the cooling issue by seeing if the hs was on tight it wasnt. the backplate under the socket for my zerotherm cooler had fractured so the tension to mount it to the cpu was gone. finding that out i ordered a tuniq tower installed it and the board wouldnt post. it wasnt esd cause the leds on the board lit up meaning full power. the bios somehow got corrupted and wouldnt post. danbaron Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I remember my old pc, i bought a huge cooler, lol the guys at the shop tied it up with cables to the mb. Quote
DingChavez Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Alright peeps i'm back. It was the motherboard i upgraded to the 790i SLI FTW board it was only $20 more and they said it was more stable than my previous board. I won't be gaming tonight or possible tomorrow night i've got some case modifications to do installing a new side exhaust fan for to help relieve the video card some. All the other hardware is intact and functioning fine. Didn't lose anything. The BIOS on the old board just corrupted itself. From extensive researching i found out it was a common problem after about 1-2 years. Game with ya guys soon Quote
