October 21, 200322 yr Since Gator got most of what I found out with my experience installing Steam/FA on 10 different computers. I will post a last ditch effort or a guarranteed way for you to get Steam and FA running.1: First off. Get your latest chipset drivers, DirectX 9.0b, Videocard drivers.2: Have your HL 1.1.1.0 handy. Download 2.8 full version. Save your FA Sprite folder, config.cfg, menus folder. These can be used in 2.8. Just copy and paste when ready. Save the new ones for a back up of course.3: Goto your add remove programs and Uninstall Steam and Hl and anyother HL mod.4: Search your Harddrive(Goto search your computer) or look in your drives for Steam , HL, FA, Opposing force etc etc folders. Manually delete all of these folders.5: Goto your Run box in your start button. Type in regedit.6: Goto hkey_current_user and click the little plus, click the plus software, valve, delete it.7: Do the same for Steam, Sierra or any other HL mod you find there.8: Goto hkey_local_machine and do the same as above.9: Restart10: Scandisc your entire computer and defrag it as well. This is a must!!!!!!!11: Restart when done.12: Install HL. PLAY IT WHEN DONE AND PUT THE CD KEY IN!!!!!!! This is a must!!!!!!! Not the whole game silly!!!???13: Update HL to 1.1.1.014: Download the FULL version of FA 2.8. Yes the full version.You can follow Gators from this point.15: Restart your computer16. Install FA.17: Restart18: Install Steam19: Restart20: If Steam does not find the FA folder then reinstal FA to this folder C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\your@email_address.com\half-life folder. 2.8 should automatically find this path for you.The drive letter "C" is dependant on where you installed HL and Steam.
