Anyone get inot the Beta yet? Any thoughts on the game or is anyone going to be playing it?
Star Trek the MMO? I'm not sure i don't think i'm going to get involved. With BF BC 2 around the corner and the beta just starting in a couple of weeks.

I just got done playing it. The game is OK, and it is scratching my science fiction MMO itch for the moment, however long or short it may be. In my opinion however, the game is far from finished.

Upon logging in, I find an extensive character customization menu. I didn't play around with any of the races, I decided to make my own ugly reptilian freak because with this character I intend on causing destruction and grief to anyone or anything in my way. Well, I didn't get that option. Instead, I was forced onto the Federation side, and then I learn there are only going to be two sides at launch, Federation and Klingon. Ok, so fair enough, I have one choice right now, its beta, so I select Federation.

I get a list of 'instances' where the game auto selects and puts me into an instance. I actually submitted a /bug ticket on this. Why break immersion and give me a list of instances?

I then end up on a Borg infested ship where I learn the basics of combat. I must say, that ground combat is pretty nice. Moving around, firing weapons, talking, the typical MMO experience is intact and working well. Of course, the ground combat can use some tweaking and upgrades and continual work, but this core game is here, and working well, and fun! This part of the game is very immersive, and there were several times I feared for my safety when hoards of Borg were coming to attack me. Fortunately, my reptilian instincts kicked in where I began to focus and kill them off one at a time, then run away.

At this point, I was ready to fly in my ship. I select a Bridge Officer, and head to the teleporter. I watch with glee as my molecules break up into a mass of light and data. *SLAP* The instance list screen pops up again breaking my blissful RP that was flawless again up to this point.

Flying in space is intuitive, and graphically very pleasing. Messages pop up on screen, I figure out what to do, I align my ship tactically so I can fire fore and aft weapons simultaneously, etc... I am destroying Borg probes and ships with efficiency. However, there is something missing..... Don't get me wrong, the game is running and playing fairly well, but remember, I am trying to RP here.

I find a little hidden button on the screen called "Bridge View". I select it, and there I am loaded into the bridge of my ship. Ahhh, this is what I want, however I find right away that I am bored because I cannot fly the ship from my bridge, and the bridge is closed off, all doors are sealed. Hmmmmm. Is the game unfinished? Maybe.

In my opinion, if the game was finished, those doors wouldn't be sealed, and I could control the ship from the bridge. So far, there is only one thing I could interact with on my bridge, and that was the captains chair which puts you right back into "tactical mode" view. There is really nothing to speak of in the bridge. The place where the captain spends most of his time, in the bridge of his ship, and it is empty.

Well, luckily I have been browsing the Star Trek MMO forums, and see that the Devs are aware of Bridge View need, and have promised to work on it and to make it fully functional, and even open up the rest of the ship. There is talk of Fleets (guilds) with their own space stations.

Well, all that is just talk so far, because I didn't see any signs of them in this Beta. Obviously, the game isn't finished, Cryptic is promising. Lets hope they deliver.

The game does sound interesting murderer. Post some screenies if you could i am interested in seeing what this game looks like. I have played many star trek games for PC i'm just not so sure about this one since it is an MMO.

Sorry Darksorrow, I only have my own beta key.

I posted a bunch of screenshots this morning, check out this link to my site, http://www.arcadechamp.net/sto

Picture 0001 shows my ship which I am not very happy with. I want an ugly reptilian looking ship. So far, we are stuck with Federation standard issue.

Picture 0002 shows some random guy that seen me floating off on the other side of Vulcan and he came to visit me. I can't believe he was actually out that far too.

Picture 0003 shows the weapon arc for my phasers

Picture 0004 shows the weapon arc for torpedoes

Picture 0005 shows my ugly character, I am in the bridge of my ship

Picture 0006 shows the bridge of my ship. Very boring, and nothing to do there but go right back to tactical mode.

Picture 0007 shows me warping off into sector space

Picture 0008 shows sector space, warp essentially. In sector space, you are traveling at warp, and you can see other star systems and structures in the terms of Lightyears here. I really like this. It took me about 3-4 minutes to warp from Vulcan to Earth

Picture 0009 shows the Sol system where Earth is

Picture 0010 shows Earth and the Space Station

Picture 0011 I beamed to the Space Station. Here are other player characters inside

Picture 0012 Shows the transporter room which is supposed to take you to Earth, but it is sealed at this time

Picture 0013 Shows a vendor in the Space Station selling pistols

Nice screenies that looks better than i thought it would. The interface doesn't look too complicated. The GFX are nice when it comes to the ships the people could use a little more work. Doesn't look to bad at all i may consider getting this game.
