E_NORM_US_1
ok look at system properties then go to device manger then to display adapter double click open to what kind of vid adapter you have then click properties,, now when was the last time you updated your driver for vid card ? This may be your problem here so check this ,,if not go to ATI.com and get your new drivers 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
DeadRoach
I run a Radeon 9000 on a 98 system, and rarely have freezeups. I do, however, have the most recent Catalyst drivers from ATI. Can't hurt to have them if nothing else.
Enders
ya...I don't think drivers would have ANYTHING to do with this...I've had this problem...but I merely shut down Steam, restarted my computer, restarted Steam and it workedif that doesn't work for you, I don't know what to say
Jarex
see, i have restarted my pc like 50 times already.

Jarex
Well my driver vesion i think is 7.84. i never updated it since i bought it. Should i dload the new 3.8 catalytst, but as [TA]-Macgyver said that theres problems with that so i won't dlaod it. Also will it matter if i share a cd key with my friend? because i got a e-mail for steam that said i wouldn't be able to play the half life platnium pack because of my cd key and i would need a un used cd key? do u think that might also be a problem? Jarex
After many endless hours trying to make steam work......I did it. It finally works, turns out that since i shared a cd key i wouldn't work. If 2 or the same cd keys a registered in steam the one who registeres it second will not work. So my friend gave me a cd that he had and hasen't been registered in steam. And it worked yay me sooooooooooo happy. Thanks to all who gave me advice in how to fix this problem

E_NORM_US_1
I'm sorry to say that Mac is wrong on this point <YES download the 3.8 catalytst <<but when you do ,,, You must get rid of the old drivers first go to your add and remove programs and do this ,,when you get these drivers from ATI save them to your desktop ,then make sure you don't have anyother programs running in the backround,, Now all of these steps are in the directions that come with these drivers FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS OR YOU WILL MESS UP THE INSTALLATION ,I have been useing these drivers since they came out and have had no problem with them,, also go into windows explorer open drive C (if thats your main drive) you will see a file Called ATI open this file and delete everything in this file (but DON'T delete the ati file itself ) then close the file <then install the new drivers 8) 8) 8)
Jarex
well surpisingly last night in a final attempet of the day to make steam work...it worked. So i'm guessing sometimes it will freeze and other times it will not
E_NORM_US_1
Well ,,,If you look at the fixes that ATI has made do the driver.. 3.8 is the latest one ,, some of the fixes that they have made are for half life and you need to follow my direction you should have no problem,, try it and let me know
