January 14, 200422 yr Since my comeback to FA i have noticed that many people that i knew have quit playin´, my guess lies in our dear Steam. But the big thing that really bothers me is that there are no servers to play on???As you know i come from Sweden so i play on diffrent time than most of you. Let´s say i want to play in the morning or in the afternoon (Swedish time) (night time for you i guess?). There are no servers with ppl playing on them??? If i´m lucky there is one who currentlly has 7-8ppl playing (That´s an lucky day) and 3-4 servers with only 1-2 players on..Is it the bitter reality that FA is slowly dying? (Or maybe just my dear steam messing things up again?)How does it look for you americans and all other players in diffrent time zones? Has the amount of players/Servers become less than it just to be before steam? I have played FA since the release of "2.5" to current "2.8" and many ppl have quit over the years, especially when new versions have been released, but many of them has comeback in a month or two after or their places have been filled with new players. It feels like during the Steam change many ppl left, but new players to fill the missing quote has not appeared..Give me you´re opinions in the matterP.s The good thing about it all is that i only play in the evening/night time nowdays, så most of you guys are online then D.s
January 14, 200422 yr FA is dieing and i feel that when CAL is finished there will be a lot less clans playing FA.
January 14, 200422 yr I belive FA isn't dying. When I come online I see many players on some servers. It is true I didn't play much these last month because of my studies, but when I play it's the afternoon or evening in France and I can easily find some servers with 6-7 players. In the nights (France time again) most of the servers I play on got many players. Try to play at different hours. Or try to schedule your plays : send mails to some friends telling "come on this week-end form 2pm to 7pm FA on XXX server" where XXX is the name of the server.OK mother's just called me to lunch so...
January 14, 200422 yr FA is slowly deing you see it clearly. then i come home from school i live in Finland so my time is GMT+2 i come home arounf 16.00 and i see no one playing. FA is dieng now and think CAL is quiting then see how many will play FA. sorry for my spelling
January 14, 200422 yr FA cant die yet, only 2.8 can, but not FA!Once 2.9 comes out, FA players will come back to try it, hopefully like the new version, with all of the bugs fixed, and come back
January 14, 200422 yr true, when 2.9 comes out, we might see a surge of old players saying "hmm, time for the old house to make another round" or new players saying "this looks interesting"With April coming up fast, I just hope FA holds out till Hl2. And maybe, just maybe, the FA team will make SOMETHING for Hl2.Hopefully
January 14, 200422 yr Yes you're right Ripper.I just think there wasn't many players these last weeks because of few things that aren't coming from FA or Steam... school and exams perhaps :?: Most of FA players are students, and in France by example, January, May and June are the months when we got exams --> so we got few leisure time. And think about all the players whoc an only play the week-end because of their work / school. I believe it's just a bad month for FA but it will go on again.Anyway, do you truly belive a league to be so important for a game :?: I believe that even with CAL leaving, we still will have players and clans - perhaps we will have to give a different meaning to clan, but they still will exisy. As I wrote just one hour ago you can send e-mails to friends or people here on the forum to fix up a date for a game... Some of us just don't have enough free time to come each day randomly, but we can plan to play on a specific day. With IRC, MSN, the forums, the mails and Steam we can do this. Let's try. That's all I have to say : you can do many things for you are the players - FA exist by and for you.The Power to the Players :!: FA is a kind of democracy.
January 14, 200422 yr the question is is it already too late when 2.9 comes out or will the most players already stick with other games!!!
January 14, 200422 yr No. It's not too late. Players will come back - I'm sure of that. It's been the same thing for some games and some old versions of FA.
January 14, 200422 yr *Fan va känslig du har blivit olof. Det e ju bara o lira på TA servern- Där e typ folk dygnet runt.Ringer dig om 5 min.
January 14, 200422 yr Tis true HL in general is in transition. Everyone's mouths are watering ever since the news that there would be a(n) HL2. Tis also true that the FA community lost a lot of servers and players when the world opponent network dropped its support and everyone was supposed to move over to the slower and more troublesome Steam network. For myself I've been playing FA off and on since 2.3 and I have seen many of changes over that time. RC2.9 will bring lots of improvements over the current version but when they finally bring out HL2 the community will take another big hit for they are already working on modifications for the unreleased game. Only time will tell as to what will happen to Half-life and the current modifications, FA included. I have always liked half-life and will continue playing it someway or another, and I will also always try to stay with my new friends here in the Armory. Live long and prosper NANUNANU and all that jazz, see you on the server and see you later your friend Tom AKA B0DH!$@TTV@.
January 14, 200422 yr Well, whether FA is here to stay or not (still untold story), we at TA will still be around for a while. We enjoy everyone's company and friendship who play FA (and DC) with us. Technological advancements produce new and exciting games for the masses to play. That's just the way it will always be. Online gaming is more than just a game...its a community of people from all around world getting together and enjoying each others company. This is what it is all about...PEOPLE. Thanks for playing Firearms and Desert Combat with us...we enjoy your thoughts, expressions, and company. Its always nice to be around nice (good) people.
January 14, 200422 yr -UnwantedHero]true, when 2.9 comes out, we might see a surge of old players saying "hmm, time for the old house to make another round" or new players saying "this looks interesting" With April coming up fast, I just hope FA holds out till Hl2. And maybe, just maybe, the FA team will make SOMETHING for Hl2. Hopefully one chunk of the FA team(including Mazor) is developing Jungle Mist for HL and HL2 the other chunk of the FA team is developing an untitled mod for HL2 so, uhm, wee?
January 14, 200422 yr well, Jungle Mist could be cool, but of course, we'll have to wait and see what the other chunk is working on
January 14, 200422 yr FA is dying, But i believe it wont completely. There are those hardcore players/clans that will hang around no matter what happens. As for CAL, they really dont do much, its just for bragging rights.
April 26, 200421 yr Like any game FA will die. Remember tribes 1. I didnt play for 2years now i installed it again and there was only 3 server left. I think that everygame will die one day. Including FA and CS. Its just a matter of time. Now an exact date will never exist. I for example played 1hr in the last month FA just because the competition (DC) and (BF) is too big. I hope HL2 is going to come out before i am going to retire. I never liked HL but i loved the mods for it. I am actualy not waiting for hl2 but i am waiting for the mods of it. Wouldnt it be nice to be a fireArms for HL2. Well at the rate hl2 is going i am probably going to be too old to actualy play it (prob around 60 to 70 years of old).
April 26, 200421 yr Indeed FA is dying, but than again so are we. Everything die's once, but will be replaced by something else. like BF:V or HL2. Thats the way it has always been. It is amazing that HL is around fore such a long time (6years i think). So i dont think we can complain. 2.9 Will bring in a lot of new players, and old players ofcourse. FA started dying during 2.5 thanks to a huge hacker wave a lot of clans quit and so did the players (ofcourse CS and especialy DoD have something to do with that) But TA is a mobile clan, and if FA dies, TA wont. they will prolly just move to an other game. Jungle mists looks cool
April 26, 200421 yr Once 2.9 is released and put on the main Steam menu instead of being a 3rd party game people will come and play.Long live FADoL Rule
April 26, 200421 yr old thread?anyway, don't get it started againmy opinion:play the game until it's dead, and don't start mourning it before it's dead, period.
April 26, 200421 yr An interesting dilemma has developed about how popular FA will become once 2.9 is released. What makes you think that people will abandon state of the art games for a game that is essentially five years old? FA boasts gameplay as its only quality to attract players. Many other games offer what FA has and much more these days. FA does have an enjoyable community but this is a hidden trait that few realize or even appreciate. Sure the core group of FA players will undoubtedly remain but I don't think many new players will join the FA community. I fear that 2.9 will attract little attention.Something I just realized. The fate of this community lies upon clans like this one. The clans provide the servers that the rest of the community plays on. Four of the five top servers, excluding bot servers, are run by clans. You don't see many non-clan related servers running anymore. Once the clans leave for another game, then the servers will disappear. Who is going to pay for a server after that?
April 26, 200421 yr i think ever since chunky boys server got dosed, the regular players that played there, just didnt want to play no more after the server was gone. This was back in 2.7a. Then 2.8 came out and i found out about this amory server. i didnt like the anti swear policy, but it grew on me. Infact it still is. i remeber on the chunkey server, there was no arguing or any of the kind of political bs that is going on now. if someone didnt respect the admins or the players of the server they were banned no questions asked. i'm not saying the armory should do the same because i liek their system also.then steam came out and i remeber the whole dol clan being on steam and me on won. there were lots of people(hundreds) still on the won servers who didnt even know about steam. i told them about it and it was their choice to change.steam caused alot of the problems because people simply did not want to do through all that trouble to change the system. me being one of them. i only changed because my whole clan was part of the steam system. I would have quit if it wasnt for my clan.
April 26, 200421 yr I transferred over pretty easily. Steam works fine for me. And scarecrow, I suggest you put some punctuation in your posts. That jumble is confusing.P.S. A thread like this was made before and died out pretty quickly. Why are people so inclined to make silly threads like this? 8)P.P.S. You can't blame Steam. Blame yourself! :PP.P.P.S. Like others have said before, things get old. Players are bound to leave a game eventually. It's the way things work.
April 26, 200421 yr Ya thinking about it i think that you are right steam was a huge blow to this comunity. What was left of it split on the 2 systems. Btw is anyone on won anymore.
April 27, 200421 yr well the same thing happen to Quake eh?The entire community basically split into two things. QuakeWorld and something else, forget the name. But they were two different communities that had different views on how the game should be played. Some thought that Quake should have total air control (like when jumping you can turn and stuff) and the other half said there shouldn't be 100% air controlall games this massive go through rough times...we're in a rough time now. We just need to look ahead to the future and hope for the best.
