Another free map is on the way for Battlefield 4, but this one will not be available on last-generation consoles.

Having asked fans what classic map they wanted to see remade, EA found that Battlefield 2's Dragon Valley was a popular response. As a result, the map is now being remade as Dragon Valley 2015, which will be released in the free Legacy Operations DLC forPC, Xbox One, and PS4.

That leaves Xbox 360 and PS3 players out in the cold, but this doesn't necessarily signal EA's intention to cease support for those platforms.

"We really wanted to push the envelope with Dragon Valley 2015, and that meant being able to make a bigger level, with a larger scale than anything currently in Battlefield 4," the company said on itswebsite. "Because of that, we made the decision to focus on the more powerful platforms. This doesn't mean we're no longer supporting players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with critical updates when needed, but we really wanted to try something big for Dragon Valley, and we think that when you play it, you'll see the difference."

Dragon Valley 2015 will have more flags in Conquest mode than any other map in Battlefield 4 (and it'll support Rush, which didn't exist in Battlefield 2). Some things are being carried right over--such as the bridges that can be destroyed and repaired--while other aspects are being tweaked. For instance, the original version of the map was designed to compensate for Battlefield 2's poor draw distance. That required adjustments in the new game.

"We tackled this in several ways: First we increased the terrain verticality to closer mimic a real life Chinese river valley--and to give us more terrain occlusion for long distances, especially on the central island," the company explained. "We also added a dynamic cloud layer, which not only adds a welcomed air-to-ground separation in terms of gameplay, but also helps shroud far distances at ground level. This has the added bonus effect of allowing you to have intense aerial firefights above the cloud level, which looks really, really cool in Battlefield 4."

The Legacy Operations DLC will be out for free "later this year" alongside the Holiday update. While early DLC for the game did cost money, recent updateshave added maps and other content for free.
