January 27, 200421 yr From what I've read, it's a worm. It'll attach itself to whatever it feels like. It's also using Kazaa if available. Meaning it'll do it itself when you share files on Kazaa.

The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment. Mail transaction failed. Partial message is available. Attachment: (varies [.exe, .pif, .cmd, .scr] - often arrives in a ZIP archive) (22,528 bytes)The icon used by the file tries to make it appear as if the attachment is a text file. When this file is run it copies itself to the local system with the following filenames: c:\Program Files\KaZaA\My Shared Folder\activation_crack.scr %SysDir%\taskmon.exe (Where %Sysdir% is the Windows System directory, for example C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) It also uses a DLL that it creates in the Windows System directory: %SysDir%\shimgapi.dll (4,096 bytes) It creates the following registry entry to hook Windows startup:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "TaskMon" = %SysDir%\taskmon.exe The worm opens a connection on TCP port 3127 suggesting remote access capabilities.

January 29, 200421 yr Mac is a fool-hardy rebel, that's why. Or he trusts his intelligence. I mess up sometimes, so I have an antivirus to back me up in case I do something stupid. Viruses and malicious files are easily avoided actually, but people like to just get stuff left and right without thinking first. Glad to say my antivirus has only detected one instance of a virus trying to get on my computer, but that was because I clicked on a link on one of my buddy's profile. Good thing the virus was stopped before it could mess with my compy.

January 29, 200421 yr All viri need to be opened for the most part.As I said I send all suspicious attacments to a folder then scan it.I have been doing this for 5 years now and never got a virus that I can be sure of.Now Overclocking is another thing. I have destroyed hd info b/c of overclocking.I keep a spare HD that is an exact copy of my main HD. If I do have a problem all I do is copy the partitions back. I may loose a couple of weeks of info but that is not important to me.The best anti virus is common sense.As to why not.I say why.?It hogs up HD space. Needs constant updating. Conflicts with all sorts of programs and drivers. Slows your boot time considerably. Not needed for online gaming. It gets in the way of doing ordinary computer work. Major resource hog.Add up Steam, Antivirus, and all the other needed start up files/programs and your resources are probably under 80%. Start an online game and they are decreased further.That is why not for me.

January 30, 200421 yr Since most than 1 year, i dont use anti-virus, cos i dont open the file or mail that i dont know who sended it !And anti-virus sometime block the installation of some programs when it write in the win registers for registery your key or cd-key...Egidio.
