Just got pinged on messenger by a guy who is a member of one of the local musician Facebook groups asking me if I'd like to try out for his band as a bass player. I mean WFT over? This is gettin kinda crazy lol and I still haven't played a gig yet hahaha. Gotta say the first group is with a good buddy of mine . I dont know any of these guys but they play more rock and harder stuff which is more in lone with what I tend to like to play.

Maybe I can do both hahaha.

Played with the original group Sunday. It was great nailed down a couple and apparently I made the grade as I am now included in the planning group to pick out songs to round out the set list etc.

Meeting the main guy for the other group after work for a cold beer and tomake sue neither one of us are a-holes. I mean we all know I am but mainly to see if our A-holeisness can coexist hahaha. Given a good meeting tonight and providing he's not a serial killer and I make home first practice with them is Thursday where I get to play classic hard rock and metal not jazzy tunes.

Probably gonna play with both providing not a lot of scheduling conflicts. Given i've never actually performed with a band, outside of high school band, this is one hell of a learning experience and I'm getting a LOT better with timing and transitions etc.

So I went yesterday to meet the guy and make sure we could coexist in the same space without me getting slapped with a homicide charge. It was just supposed to be me hanging out for a bit talking over what they wanted in a band and seeing if everything gelled. About 10 min after I arrived dude is like "Let's ride over to Mike's so I can introduce you. As it was on the way home I was like "Cool" and went along. As soon as I get there and am introduced guy grabs a 5 string Jazz bass and hands it to me, I dont play 5 String basses, and says "Let's play something.".

So one of the songs they do is Victim of Love by the Eagles so I lead into it and the guitar player, this Mike cat, is like, "Thats the wrong note! You are a half step to high!" As this was the first meeting i kept my cool and said simply "I dont think so, I learned this song via an official Eagles Tab/ Sheet music and its notated as this." Well I play everything the way it was recorded on the album and can hear it's obviously this note." At that point I just kind of sat around and didn't even bother. Started the meet and greet with a douche move and ended with an obvious know it all. My only issue is they said learn this song and this song and 5 others you want to play and we will learn them. Im really tempted to be an A-Hole and throw stuff like Queensryche - Jet City Woman and Judas Priest - Between The Hammer and The Anvil on em and once they fumble the really fast playing telling them they aren't up to my standards and just walk out.

I will likely just tell dude i dont think it would work out and call it a day. I live in a very small area and the music scene is really small as well which is why I get noticed as a semi competent bass player. These guys are confident they can pick up a bassist and the new drummer and be booking gigs in a few weeks. Not sure about the rest of them but I have way too much stuff to do to be that intense. The other band is made up of chilled out guys and we will play but it's not like we're trying to be Zeplin recreated which is the vibe I got from these guys.

I listened to the guitar guy play and EVH or Steve Vai he aint for sure. Probably best to bow out gracefully and work with the guys I know and like. C'est la vie.

Surprisingly she's been my biggest supporter on this. Oh she has gotten a bit bent at times because i am practicing a LOT and sometimes she does not want to hear me "bring the thunder" so i have to break out the headphones but for the most part she's cool. It helps that I have learned a lot of songs she likes plus the one, Firehouse - Love of A Lifetime, that was played at our wedding. Yes a hair metal power ballad was played at my wedding... I told you I was an 80's metalhead.

I imagine that if I were to break out the Half Stack while practicing she may have other opinions but the 50 watt Eden is plenty for practice.

I would not use the term "rockstar", "technically proficient bassist" is a much more apt term.
