5 Reasons Unreal Engine 5 is a BIG DEAL

Featured Replies

The main reason it's a big deal is Unreal Engine is fairly simple to integrate and use where as complex engines, such as Frostbyte, are far more apt to flaws in programming such as hovercraft climbing skyscrapers. Granted if game companies would hire maniacs as testers or you know have a decent beta anymore a lot of these things would be caught before launch. IMHO game companies have lost the drive to produce good games and have focused on the lack of attention span that the gaming community seems to have in abundance now. As the focus has shifted away from PC gaming and settled on console gaming the mindset of the end user has changed.

Console gamers aren't looking for that game they can play for years and are focused on the new shiny thing coming out next month and if the game they bought, or more frequently their parents bought, doesn't work right or has flaws it gets relegated to the pile of games that aren't played anymore and forgotten. PC gamers are a different ilk but the developers have adopted the same attitude with PC games as console games. I mean look at Battlefield. In the earlier titles if there was something broken it was worked on and patched whereas in the last two it's pretty much been lip service to keep from getting sued into oblivion. BF4 was horribad when it released but they put in the hours and the game is in my opinion one of the best ones they have put out in the end but sadly it looks like it will be among the high point games in the franchise as it just keeps getting worse each iteration.

Publishers are not making things any better with the constant rushing out games to meet deadlines and not when the game is in a good place to publish but i can understand their end more as its all about ROI to them.

No matter what the engine, dev team, or publisher, games will not improve until passionate gamers are running the companies again and pushing out products THEY want to play, not MBAs pushing to get the "Next Big Thing™" out the door.
