Fore some time the Greek groverment has banned public gaming to prevent gambling addiction Now the law has been changed a bit, but yahoo (clik the link fore the full story) did some research and found out some concerning things...

 

"They treat us like criminals," said Aris Assimakopoulos, a 28-year old computer specialist who runs an internet cafe in downtown Athens. Policemen stormed Assimakopoulos' enterprise twice in January, threw out all clients, confiscated 50 PCs and arrested an employee.

"Posing as clients, we ascertained that in 49 out of the 70 PCs installed, prohibited video games were being played such as 'rally', 'football' and 'war games'," said the policeman leading the raid in his written deposition.

"I spent the night in jail with a drug dealer," said Assimakopoulos' employee Theodoros Konstantinou. A row of blank PC screens, sealed by police with wax are behind him. "They're practically destroyed now," Assimakopoulos said.

 

Lets hope other countries dont take an example out of this... No more lanparties, cyber café,...

I think it is not a good law, I dont see the point in banning public gaming, i could understand war games, but football and rally??? Now what do all those gamers need to do? Hang out on the streets? Lock themself up in a room?-> no more social contacts. Poor Greeks

Basically, they wouldn't be able to do this in say Europe or japan or US or Canada cause gaming is sooo wide spread, it'd be impossible to stopbut I think this is a really stupid law. The greek government is just buying into the media's image of gaming"Every video game is violent and it creates killers and rapists!"

can you really justify online videogames to be that degenerate? HOLY CRAPthis law is IDIOTIC how can you compare "gaming" to gambleing? because that is exactly what they are doing they are taking a term used for two comlpetely different things and running away with it like a bloodthirsty mob...and why in the hell are they trying to preventgambeling addiction? it is usually vices like gambeling that gets a govt. a lot of funds via taxes ect. for instance the lottery

Send Agents in and arrest the people who are actually gambling (like what we do). War games...wow that is moronic.Since I work vice this is something I know a little bit about. I just dont understand how you can do something like that unless you can proved they were gambling on them at the time in question or the device only served as a gambling divice (ie electronic slots or something along those lines). I computer for computer games...wow.

Well, it is proparganda. It is all just one person saying somthing and the news wanting their story to be the main interest. It makes a better debate in the aftermath when you say it was related to CS or somthing. Newspapers, News shows, etc. don't really care who it affects or if it makes sence, they just care if people watch it, they just care about making money.

The problem isn't that kids are imitating violent video games, it's that kids are stupid enough to confuse games with reality. If you teach kids morals and common sense first and THEN let them play violent games, then they'll know better than to be violent in real life. If not, then you'll have a constant flow of kids getting hurt from trying out wrestling moves with their friends :roll: .

This then gets made public by some means. Then alot of parents think that games=real life violence. Stupid, yes

Only those who are not in touch with reality confuse a game for real life. I know games like Vice City make controversy due to the content yet other games might be shotting yet it is an AI bot you are killing. It makes no sense. Im glad im not in Greece.

I'm sorry to say, but I feel like the only intelligant person in my school

90% of people around me in school are hockey jocks/ugly girls who chase boys/cheerleader types who dunno stuff

the hockey jocks say f**k every second word like it's their job, the ugly people annoy me cause they think they're better than everyone else and the cheerleaders pass around pot in the bus like no one knows their doing it
